The last poll on WinCustomize, we asked if you have taken the time to visit the GUI Champs website. The overwhelming response was Yes, which is definitely a good thing. If you haven’t checked out the site yet, head over to www.guichamps.com and see all the great skins already submitted. Better yet, go ahead and submit one for this years event. Last week, we wanted to have some fun and asked members to create a Halloween Winky to use in news posts and var...
Well since I have been gone for about a week, I thought I would post some of the skins I missed while I was gone. All kinds of great stuff came in, and it’s taking a while to go through and see what I missed. I would also love to see what you have been downloading over the past week as well. Here is what I found so far.
Don’t worry folks, your 401K’s will be fine. Just let democrats and the government take care of it for you. Link House Democrats recently invited Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor at the New School of Social Research, to testify before a subcommittee on her idea to eliminate the preferential tax treatment of the popular retirement plans. In place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created "guaranteed retirement accounts" fo...
Just picked up Guitar Hero: World Tour a few hours ago, and have been trying to get drumming down. The family has been playing and it’s fun. This version has a ton of great songs.
Every day I visit tons of website, forums, and social networks for all types of topics, most of which are technology based in some sort of form. This election cycle has really brought out the best of the liberal “group think” mentality regarding Obama. On just about every social network Obama is praised as “the one” and any hint of disagreement with his policies or ideals is immediately responded with accusations of racism, or just plain insults. Anybody who wants to claim that...
Wired sits down with Craig and Blair Fraser, founders of IronClad Games, where they give a preview of the upcoming “micro-expansions” for Sins of a Solar Empire. They cover a range of topics, and is a great in-depth interview. A quick excerpt: “This notion of “respect” has been a critical component in Stardock's success. From the lack of bundled copy protection to the Gamer's Bill of Rights, the publisher has sought to minimize the impact software pirates can have on sales b...

Stardock is excited to announce the release of IconDeveloper 2.10. IconDeveloper is an application which allows users to easily create their own Windows icons. IconDeveloper isn’t a drawing application, but lets you import images created in other application like Photoshop, and quickly turn them into icons. IconDeveloper will also allow you to recolor icons, do batch conversions, add new sizes, and even incorporates itself into the Windows shell for simple access using ...
Halloween is just under two weeks away, and I thought we should have a little fun with it. Last year, Zoomba posted a fun challenge for our members to create their own “versions” of Winky, the WinCustomize mascot. We saw some really cool and funny entries, but there wasn’t much done for a Halloween version. With that being said, I thought we would have another challenge to create a Halloween themed Winky that I can use to post news and articles with. Th...
We have seen some featured CursorFX themes and DesktopX widgets that are Halloween inspired, so today would be a good day to post some wallpapers. There are a ton of Halloween wallpapers in the gallery, so I guess today could be considered “part 1”. Feel free to post links to wallpapers you would like to see featured in the next post.
A couple of months ago I won an iPod Touch in a contest. Just when I was getting to the point of thinking it would never come, it finally showed up. It’s an 8GB 1st gen iPod Touch. Now comes the time to choose if I should sell it.
Many people are familiar with either the stand-alone WindowBlinds application, or the Object Desktop subscription which includes WindowsBlinds. However, we also have a couple of WindowBlinds bundles that people might also be interested in. These are great for people who don’t want an OD subscription, but still offers more than just WindowBlinds and still opens up an upgrade path to Object Desktop later. WindowBlinds is the best way to change the look and feel of e...
You have been hearing quite a bit about Windows 7 lately, and Brad has given his wishlist , so I wanted to follow him and give my early wishlist as well. Although mine is a bit different in nature, these are things I think will make Windows 7 popular, and distance itself from Vista. No Multiple SKU’s. Sorry, but I honestly think this was one of the worst marketing mistakes made with Windows Vista. Just off the top of my head there are about 6 SKU’s for Vista...
Happy Monday everyone! Time to start the day and see what fabulous skins were submitted over the weekend to WinCustomize. I really wonder how many people are dedicating their skinning time to the GUI Champs , but it seems like the WinCustomize uploads haven’t tapered off much, so only time will tell. To save you some time this morning, I browsed through the galleries and grabbed some of my favorite picks from the weekend for you. ...
