Wired Magazine sits down with Craig and Blair Fraser, founders of IronClad Games, where they give a preview of the upcoming “micro-expansions” for Sins of a Solar Empire.  They cover a range of topics, and is a great in-depth interview.

A quick excerpt:

“This notion of “respect” has been a critical component in Stardock's success. From the lack of bundled copy protection to the Gamer's Bill of Rights, the publisher has sought to minimize the impact software pirates can have on sales by creating games that are readily available for direct download, and providing an experience that is aggressively updated with regular new content.  Releasing Entrenchment as a micro-expansion is intrinsic to that approach.”

I was extreemly sceptical about if this was going to be worth the money. I'm now sure it's going to be a blast to play with.

I think some ppl kind of thought this was SD/IC trying to take money off fans for a glorified patch.  But seeing as a full expansion pack usually costs around $30 anyway, you're getting effectively more than a third of an expansion (in terms of the stuff involved) for a third of the price of a full expansion.

I mean, would you rather have the entrenchment stuff now or when they've finished the others?

Any comparison to what Blizzard is doing with SCII is interesting.  I'm going to reserve judgement for when the second part comes out - I would be surprised if they could get away with any price more than that for an expansion.

same for me.  I am quite happy to pay $10 for all this content.  Adds so much more layers of strategy.
