Last weeks poll on WinCustomize asked a simple question….Do you use RSS feeds? The results were nearly a tie, but I was surprised at the amount of people who said “no”. I read through RSS feeds every day for news, product reviews, etc, and it’s been quite handy in reducing the time it takes to go through many sites. This weeks poll we are asking if you have checked out the GUI Champs website yet. The 2008 GUI Championships kicked off and even though it’s still very e...
Many of us use Vue 6 for creating some breathtaking 3D scenery, and some of the best examples can be found in the gallery of Kenwas . I got a newsletter this weekend with some more details on the upcoming Vue 7, and it looks very impressive so far. It looks like one of the biggest changes is the product lineup, and what can be done with it. They will be introducing Vue 7 Complete, which will have many of the most used features found in Infinite, but just not as expensive. ...
We did some big housecleaning today, and going through some stuff I found a few old Star Trek games for the Commodore 64. These were text based games where you would type in commands and the text story would “react” to it and either make you try again, or proceed with the story. They were really fun though, and I remember the game taking like 30 minutes to load each section. The bad thing is the disks are no where to be found, but it was cool to find some games I...
We have had quite a busy week here at WinCustomize, and with Stardock as a whole. I thought today would be a good time to do a re-cap of this weeks news, just in case you missed some of it earlier. GUI Champs 2008 Begins. The 2008 GUI Championships have begun, and this year we have over $15,000 in cash and prizes. Categories this time around are WindowBlinds skins, Animated Wallpapers (.dreams), and Icon Packs. Visit www.guichamps.com for more info. Win...
Last time we showed some really cool CursorFX themes that can be used to get your Halloween desktop all ready to go. This time I wanted to show some DesktopX objects/widgets that will definitely put some Halloween fright into your desktop.
The 2008 WinCustomize Community Wallpaper is complete and ready for download in the gallery. This year it was completed by PuterDudeJim, and features tags from many of the WinCustomize skinners and community members. From PuterDudeJim’s description: “This wall is dedicated to all those who support the skinning community. Our community is made up of thousands of the most gifted souls. Not only skinners, artists, etc. But also those who unselfishly give their time and effort to h...
Friday is here and what a fantastic week it has been in skinning. The biggest news this week was the launch of the 2008 GUI Championships. This year we have over $15,000 in cash and prizes from great sponsors such as ATI/AMD, TechSmith, Stardock, Wacom, Corel, DeviantART, WinCustomize, and more! This competition is international, and is open for pretty much everyone, so feel free to pass around the link and tell your friends about it. Get the info at www.guichamps.com . ...
When Windows Vista first came out, people had some good reactions to the new “Aero” look. It was a big change from the Luna visual style that was associated with Windows XP. I like Aero as well, but after running it for just a few weeks it’s gets old and mundane. Fortunately, we have WindowBlinds so changing the skins (visual styles) of Windows Vista is very easy, but the hardest part is choosing the right skins to use. Everyone has their own taste and...
Like most companies, Stardock puts together an internal business plan for setting up goals and objectives for the company for the forthcoming year (Stardock's fiscal year begins its execution phase every October 1). As part of this business plan is an appendix that acts as a critical analysis of what Stardock customers can expect to see and what challenges the company faces to better satisfy customer expectations. We know many of you have been experiencing performance issues on WinCustomize, and to help resolve these issues we are moving WinCustomize to a new server in the Chicago area. During this time early next week, you might experience slowdowns, hiccups, and all the other good stuff associated with a move like this. If you have any questions or concerns, Seabass has a post in the Support area where you can keep up with the status of the move.
Check out the animation on the Halloween skin , it's just amazing. I really don’t know how this was done, but all I can say is great job!
