The time of Diplomacy is over. The length of the war and differing opinions on what should be done to bring the war to an end has led to a splintering of the groups involved. The controlling powers-that-be have depleted arsenals and seemed to have exhausted all efforts of diplomacy. Trapped in a stalemate, sub-factions have rebelled and broken off the main alignments. Rebellion is upon us.

The exciting next chapter in the awesome Sins of a Solar Empire universe has arrived. A full-fledged expansion to the original, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion draws you even deeper into the galactic struggle for supremacy with appealing new factions, terrifyingly cool new ships of all sizes, enhanced lighting and particle effects for increased visual pleasure and all-new victory conditions.

“Rebellion is the first stand-alone expansion to the Sins of a Solar Empire universe,” said Brian Clair, director of publishing for Stardock. “Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion will add many new ships, refresh the visuals and integrate Impulse::Reactor features to support achievements, multiplayer leagues and much more.”

In the original award-winning Sins of a Solar Empire, developed by Ironclad Games, you are the leader of one of three civilizations embroiled in a galactic war, fighting for survival of your entire race against relentless foes. Your success will depend on your ability to manage your empire and command your vast fleets of starships to victory. Players will colonize new worlds, develop extensive trade networks, conduct research, fortify their empires with powerful starbases and fleets of ships, plus control the galaxy using the unique diplomacy system that reacts dynamically to the players’ actions.

New features of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion include:

  • New Factions: Players decide whether to become Loyalists or Rebels, which unlocks a unique new tech tree granting them new technologies and ship variants.
  • New Titan-class ships:  Massive warships for each race that dwarf capital ships, these deadly new monsters are capable of wiping out entire enemy fleets single-handedly.
  • New Capital Ships:  A new capital ship class arrives, giving players new strategic options.
  • New Corvette-class ships:  Small, highly maneuverable light ships that are adept at a variety of tasks.
  • Loyalist and Rebel versions of some of the existing Sins’ frigates and cruisers, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
  • Updated lighting and particle effects for enhanced visuals.
  • New Victory Conditions to allow for more variety, differing strategies and shorter game sessions.
  • Additional capital ship ability levels, for greater strategic choice.
  • Impulse::Reactor support for chat, friends, achievements and more.

Each ship grants a small amount when it successfully makes a trip, but yes, it all depends on what values you're going with. It shouldn't be a game changer, I just wanted to point out that we made that change.

Greg are you playing on a speed faster than 1x normal? My crew and I play on 10-15 stars with 15+ planets each without any lag what so ever until about 12-13 hours into the game. We have a crew of 3-4 playing against the remainder of Hard AI.

For really long games with DS we'll play two 12-15 hour sessions over a weekend (same game file) on low graphics on slow settings and we won't get lag until about 8-10 hours into the second day ...

on Apr 14, 2011

I play on

random (10 player) single star map

normal fleets

All settings faster

all 9 Ai vicious usually 3 or 4 in team

locked teams

Pirates on

1920*1080 video

60Hz refresh rate

2x Anti-aliasing

Effects are on default (high, medium, low)

30 minutes into the game 90 percent of civilian and military slots on all planets are used. Fleets are maxed up with pacts between AIs already running and their fleets exceed or max up 2000 fleet points each.

Once they start loosing ships while fighting each other and suiciding their fleets against me they are getting strike craft heavy and by around 2 h in game my fleet as well reaches 1600+ fleet points. My fleet usually includes 100+ bombers some fighters and rest of the fleet distributed between support ships HC and LRMs

AIs have full mine spamm with SB on all border worlds and on some inside planets as well. If there is not to many TEC players game is playable but in my experience as soon as there is a couple of supply pacts running and filed their slots up game starts slowing down.

I do tend to speed up things from start because against vicious with fleet that is not mature is really hard going if not impossible. but late game (2+h) if i speed up game on 8x speed it actually feels slower that game on normal speed

If i play on setting mentioned above some games can be finished but as soon as i go on multi star its impossible.

Oh I run

Win 7 64 Home edition

I7 920 OC to 3200Mhz

6 MB DDR3 1600 RAM

2x GTX285 1GB in SLI

7200 RPM HD ......

System isn't nowhere near used to max......

Try switching off SLI-mode on your video card.

on Apr 15, 2011

That's actually a valid suggestion. I have a pair of GTX 285s too, and whenever I turn on SLI, even with the latest drivers, I usually see a drop in performance in any game.

Wow. That's pretty depressing.

So, once again we have a situation where it might make more sense to spend your money on one real nice video card instead of two lesser cards for SLI...

On the bright side, he's not stuck on a Socket 939 motherboard, unable to upgrade his processor to a quad core (like me).

on Apr 16, 2011

When I bought those cards they were top of the line.... paid about 900 £ for them.

What is sad is that you need to turn off some of the hardvare to make game faster .

Certainly. Video cards are advancing much faster than engine tech (which is actually backpedaling now due to more FPS games being cross-platform). I can still run everything I've tried on a single 285 at 1980x1024, usually with most settings max/near max, with good FPS. A card that's not several years old like the 285 will blow anything out of the water, there's literally no need for SLI.

My 8800 still chugs along, taking everything I throw at it. Only the most intensive (Or poorly optimized) game slows it.

I hear in reviews that even Crysis 2 scaled back somewhat for consules. It's only going to get worse, I'm afraid....game companies see iPad gaming as the future...... ATI and Invidia need to push game companies to push the envelope or the hardware they sell will go the way of the dodo...... And my 8800gtx still rocks............

They did scale down but for my eyes on max setting crysis 2 is still by far visually best FPS i played ever. I do own all 3 Crysis games....  Perhaps they just use available hardvare in better way.
