The time of Diplomacy is over. The length of the war and differing opinions on what should be done to bring the war to an end has led to a splintering of the groups involved. The controlling powers-that-be have depleted arsenals and seemed to have exhausted all efforts of diplomacy. Trapped in a stalemate, sub-factions have rebelled and broken off the main alignments. Rebellion is upon us.

The exciting next chapter in the awesome Sins of a Solar Empire universe has arrived. A full-fledged expansion to the original, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion draws you even deeper into the galactic struggle for supremacy with appealing new factions, terrifyingly cool new ships of all sizes, enhanced lighting and particle effects for increased visual pleasure and all-new victory conditions.

“Rebellion is the first stand-alone expansion to the Sins of a Solar Empire universe,” said Brian Clair, director of publishing for Stardock. “Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion will add many new ships, refresh the visuals and integrate Impulse::Reactor features to support achievements, multiplayer leagues and much more.”

In the original award-winning Sins of a Solar Empire, developed by Ironclad Games, you are the leader of one of three civilizations embroiled in a galactic war, fighting for survival of your entire race against relentless foes. Your success will depend on your ability to manage your empire and command your vast fleets of starships to victory. Players will colonize new worlds, develop extensive trade networks, conduct research, fortify their empires with powerful starbases and fleets of ships, plus control the galaxy using the unique diplomacy system that reacts dynamically to the players’ actions.

New features of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion include:

  • New Factions: Players decide whether to become Loyalists or Rebels, which unlocks a unique new tech tree granting them new technologies and ship variants.
  • New Titan-class ships:  Massive warships for each race that dwarf capital ships, these deadly new monsters are capable of wiping out entire enemy fleets single-handedly.
  • New Capital Ships:  A new capital ship class arrives, giving players new strategic options.
  • New Corvette-class ships:  Small, highly maneuverable light ships that are adept at a variety of tasks.
  • Loyalist and Rebel versions of some of the existing Sins’ frigates and cruisers, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
  • Updated lighting and particle effects for enhanced visuals.
  • New Victory Conditions to allow for more variety, differing strategies and shorter game sessions.
  • Additional capital ship ability levels, for greater strategic choice.
  • Impulse::Reactor support for chat, friends, achievements and more.

Quoting Omega-Section-Alpha, reply 308I wonder if Entrenchment and Diplomacy will still be active when also having this new expansion on....I hope so!
Rebellion builds upon Entrenchment and Diplomacy, so it will have all the prior Sins content included.

So, assume that I format my HD and go to install Sins.  There will be no need for me to install my previous SotSE and the following expansions because all the content will be installed when I install Rebellion itself?  or to ask differently? I might as well toss in the trash SotSE when I buy rebellion? Just making sure so I don't have two of the same games installed eventually.  I never get how this type of expansion works.  I might as well uninstall the previous game first? Also, I am excited for the new expansion.

It says "stand alone" so maybe.

This expansion had better be polished. I don't want to turn it on and find a million things wrong with it. I don't have that kind of patience for you guys anymore...

Yeah, they said it will include all the previous content.  Those that own Trinity/Diplomacy get a $10 discount though.  So do be sure to link the game with Impulse to qualify for the discount.

They want $30 for it for those of us who already have Diplomacy.  The question rising in my mind, is, "If they don't improve the ICO servers and the lag becomes worse when Rebellion is released (with an anticipated increase in online multiplayer player counts), would I want to spend $30 on it?  Would I want to spend $30 on a game that is essentially unplayable online?"

It seems like the lag on ICO has gotten worse since the last patch, and it's becoming a real issue for people.  Almost everyone has been complaining about it.  Also, now when someone minidumps or loses their connection, it seems like the game hangs for two or three times as long.

On behalf of the online multiplayer community, we would really like to see some acknowledgment of this issue from Stardock/Ironclad.

I look forward to having hundreds of people online at once again, and I hope it happens, but at the same time I am concerned that the ICO servers could have a laggy meltdown and that online game play could grind to a laggy halt.

on Apr 03, 2011

I don't think Stardock or IC is going to do anything about the gamer's problems in regards to online play. Only thing they see is dollar signs, and more people buy the game for single player tht multiplayer, at least in my experience. So, as long as that is the case, SD and IC have nothing to gain by helping the online community out. As proof, how long has that spammer been making your games a living Hell? (Bringing that up here might actually get it some attention from the devs.)

on Apr 04, 2011

JA_394,

"Nothing to gain by helping the online community?"  I going to excuse this comment because you've only been a member since February. SINS was built on community involvement and we've been supporting this game far beyond the expected duties of a developer.  We hate the spammer as much as you do, but spamming complaints and rumors about our company doesn't really help out.

on Apr 04, 2011

I see your point, Craig. I really do. When I said "Nothing to gain" I was stating personal experience with other gaming companies. I do appreciate everything that Stardock and Ironclad have done for Sins. Heck, Sins is the only game I have played since late December! My point, though, is that what you guys do, the average user can't see it. After I posted last night, I reinstalled the original discs (Which for some reason I still have), played, and the difference was monumental. I see what you guys do, at least I do now. (Probably should have done that before I ran my virtual mouth) I think what I said about the improvements not being visible is the sticking point. People who have been playing the game for a long time (Like me, Darvin, Sanchezz, Kitkun, etc...) notice these things, but the inexpierenced user does not. In my opinion, that is where some of rage against you guys comes from. As an example, the spammer. Some have been asking for proof as to whether you guys are doing anything. How are you supposed to give proof? I bet it's more complicated than we the mere gamers might think. Am I correct in any of my statements?

on Apr 04, 2011

The spammer no longer shows up much.  Right now the biggest concern people have is in-game and out-of-game lag on Ironclad Online.  Also, it seems like the game really "hangs" now when someone minidumps or otherwise loses their connection.

I'm excited about the prospect of Rebellion (which I see as a "Sins 2") being back on store shelves and receiving fresh marketing and publicity and hopefully hundreds of new people online, but I'm worried that if 250 people log onto Ironclad at once that it will suffer from severe lag.  I really think that lag is the largest issue confronting online multiplayer right now.

Thanks JA I can understand your frustration.
We are doing all we can.  We are in ICO frequently to check on him. He has been temporarily shut out of ICO multiple times.  I realize he is still around, but it was worse before. I was in this morning but he hasn't been on while I was there. We've had a solution for a while that could cut him out completely, but we've been reluctant to execute because it will really inconvenience players who are legitimate community members. We are exploring a few other options that should minimize the damage he can do. To give all the details in a public post will only arm him more.  Until this is completely resolved try using the other channels or getting into a game as soon as you can. Its a sin one person can get so much pleasure ruining a good community.

on Apr 04, 2011

I was thinking about the lag and when it appeared.  It might be some sort of scanning program or another layer over ICO.

Spammer appeared in late 1.2 beta and lag appeared with 1.2 RC so we cannot be sure what is causing it.

OK

Go back to thread business

I agree with that 100%. I take it you didn't intend a pun, either?

on Apr 05, 2011

Can someone please tell me if this includes the stuff from the first game and the expansions of if it is basically sins 2 and is completely different?

And titan ships OH YEAH!!!!

If they dwarf capital ships, which in turn dwarf frigates etc, how huge are the titan ships compared to frigates?!

please some screenshots of them PLEASE!!!

on Apr 05, 2011

Betting they haven't modeled the titans yet, so you'd get a screenshot of empty space.

Nah, I bet it's nearly done and we should get a beta within a week or two.
