Yeah, it's not very wise to tweet terrorist threats to an airline on Twitter. The Dutch girl ended up being arrested for this.
Pretty stupid thing to do...and she'll be learning that the hard way, most likely.
These overgrown and electronically indulged babies create their make believe world and expect others to just smile, shake their heads, chuckle and say, "Oh those darned kids."
I expect she'll tire of the color orange fairly quickly.
Stupid knows no cure.
Biggest thing not to do on Twitter is to sign up in the first place.
+1
The same threat made by mail, phone or in person would have the same reaction. Social media should be taken just as seriously.
There's nothing wrong with Twitter. It's a fantastic way to communicate with others, and get news, updates, etc.
I was doing all that way before Twitter, or home use of the internet even......Just sayin'.
I agree with Wizard, everyone was communicating in a more direct manner before all of the current technology that is available today. Granted you were still faced with the same problem, trying to figure out what was pure information versus opinion and conjecture.
I honestly feel bad for her and her family. That's one of those needless mistakes that will probably be a life-changing event.
Of course the airline has to take those kind of remarks seriously, they can't see something like that and say "Aw, she's just kidding."
Reminds me of the kid that posted some idiotic remark at a concert a year or so ago.
Agree. The problem isn't Twitter, or facebook, or any of the other social media. They are useful for contacting friends, associates and for networking.
She could have done the same thing with a telephone call or email or anonymous note.
So, the problem is individual. There's no reason on earth for her immature idiocy beyond immature idiocy, and she's going to pay a heavy price for it...not just legal, but educational and a far dimmer future career.
She's Dutch...

Supposedly her arrest was followed by "dozens" of people repeating similar tweets in a protest.
Whatever.
Was there a crackdown, arresting anyone who protested?
Arguably, the best way for people to protest is with their wallets. Don't fly that airline if you are opposed to the airlines policies.
In any case, imo, she wasn't very smart for threatening an airline and, while sad, deserves everything she gets. People need to start taking responsibility for their actions these days.
Just shows.....'Twitter' was well named ....
Yup, same here, and nobody of great importance to me uses Twitter for matters of importance anyhow. Nope, we got phones for that.... and we actually talk to each other. Imagine that!
As for facebook, went there once to sign up, regretted it and never went back.
