Love the concept art. And love the mentioning of the Distant Stars mod in one of the questions.

on Nov 14, 2011

Sweet, now we can finally see what the titans from the other races look like (although it is only concept art and they will probably look a lot different once the game is finally released). The first Vasari titan somehow reminds me of the Reaper Sarren from the Mass Effect series. The titans all look really cool, especially the ones belonging to the Vasari. The Advent one still looks a bit too cute for a real titan if you ask me.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up!

Q: Will you be able to destroy planets?

I’m purposefully not going to answer that yet J

The fact that the answer isn't "Definitely not" is quite telling.

Indeed.

Looking forward to whatever they have in mind.

Well, I don't know if you were playing and looking at this site when they first announced that they were going to make any expansions they said that the 3rd would have the Easter Egg of the Death Star if you got all the Artifacts and could destroy planets.

Q: Will ships/structures finally get working turrets that spin and turn like a normal turret would ala Homeworld 2?

No, it’s hard to justify spending the CPU cycles on a purely cosmetic feature that you’d only see when fully zoomed in.

Somehow already possible with modding, in case of pop-up turret... .mesh from turret need to be removed from main .mesh and used for make the firing particle effect... so turret will always follow his target... and since it will be using shaders code ( .fx ), it will mainly use GPU cycle and not so much CPU cycle...

Woot for Sins and DS. I'm not so much worried about Death Stars or exploding planets, but the Titans and rebalances that go with will be something to explore.

on Nov 15, 2011

those pictures look nothing like what any of the races currently would use. I mean is it a new race?

Some kind of vasari chaser?

I also think its texture system might change. like from Supreme Commander 1 to supreme commander 2 while its particle system gets buffed.

Performance wise its a plus for big games.

I'll play the game either way. Long live the Empire!

That's the thing about concept art. The reality of 3D will kick it around tons. The Vasari vessels look about right, but rather than glowing red, they usually have unarmored components. So who knows how that might chance.

The whole of the Advent doesn't look bad, but some of the more detailed sections defy the current trend. That might get simplified. Hell, it might get a complete rehaul. Who knows. The Cherubim shown on another thread is a major departure from the norm. Perhaps that will signify a fundamental change in the rebel faction.

That's another thing. We don't know how many of these are rebel.

Hope not... SC1 was great on the graphics level... for SC2, it is like if a kids of 5 year have use a huge brush for apply vivid color ( somehow like Metro of Windows 8 )...

If Stardock move from shader 2.x to 3.x, i hope that it is for improve the visual, not for downgrade them

Hmm... rather underwhelming. Half of the answers either say something will not be changed or sounds interesting and MAY be looked into (which usually means "keep dreaming lol"), the other half say that something is going to be changed but nobody's willing to say what. Oh and a handful of answers stating what everybody knows (Titans can move, yay... omg wasn't that obvious? Come on, would they be making so much noise about giving each race their own clone of the orkulus?? Gimme a break.).

All in all, nothing really interesting in there.

Nice pics tho

Pretty much, but there was this:

Q: Are there any improvements to starbases in Rebellion?

There are some balance changes to starbases, depending on which race and faction you opt to play. We’ll be going into more detail on that but for now we want to avoid spoilers J

Balance changes to starbases would be most welcome. In particular, something needs to be done to give the TEC and Advent enough of an incentive to ever build starbases (in games against decent players). The Orkulus, while powerful, shouldn't be nerfed - rather, the starbases of the other factions need to be improved to compensate.

Perhaps TEC and Advent starbases should be given a default special ability - the special ability of the Orkulus is the ability to move. Maybe the TEC starbase could be given the ability to continuously repair everything friendly in the gravity well at a rate of 5 or 7.5 hull/sec or something, kind of like Docking Booms except by default and covering the whole gravity well. This would make the Argonev useful for defense.

As for the Advent starbase, perhaps its special ability could be to spread a significant amount of culture by default (maybe twice or 3 times that of a normal culture center).

Something like that.

The number of starbases you can build around stars should be lowered (2), the ai cant handle multiple starbases around stars and its an easy ai exploit. So if starbases are going to be strengthened  it will exasperate the problem.
