I have a Sony Reader and love it. The E-ink is so much better than trying to read on and LCD which hurts my eyes after about 30 minutes. I can read the E-ink for hours on end without any problems. And I have read five full noveels on my Reader befoer I had to recharge it. And it has only gotten to about half charge. The battery life is phenomonal.

I want a slate like device. But the iPad is a highly priced toy, not a real computer. I too will wait for the HP or some other slate like device running a real operating system that supports things like docking, external devices etc. None of that will work on the iPad.

I have a few Apple products that I would not mind owning but as for the iPad - not at this time.

No--no wireless net connectivity--bad choice and Mac only software finishes it off.  If it had been a netbook with that design but all the features of a netbook (along with the ability to control the program interface with handwriting, I'd have snapped one up in a sec.

I could use a portable, easy to carry and use and VERSATILE portable.  Rooting for Mac  but it isn't for me.

What? It has optional 3G and doesn't run Mac apps.

I doubt that I'll ever get one.  Apart from price (over 1000 bucks for a 64gb version... way too much for what it is, for me), the name sounds like an abbreviation for incontinence pads...

I might end up getting those in about 10 - 15  years or so, however.

Spencer, I recently bought an iPad out of total curiosity. I have been using it almost constantly at work and when at home. I was prejudiced against Apple, and honestly didn't give then a fair shake.

The iPad is incredible. Light as a feather, spiffy, and with the apps I've put on it, has been invaluable in patient education. They love it too! The most frequently spoken sentence now is, "NOW I understand!" and "WOW! That's fantastic! Thanks, Doc!".

You're gonna love it!

The ipad absolutely rocks. It is the most fun I have had with new hardware since i got my 286 in 1992. It has changed computing in our household.

 

We play games on it. We useit to quickly look up information using atomic browser. Youtube is a favourite. I use it read novels (about 10 so far) I also use it for all the text books we have.

However we also use it to control the HTPC connected to our plasma screen. Ihave one app that I can use to wake up the computer. And another app that transforms the ipad into a large mouse pad (with keyboard). We use it daily to watch movies and catch up on tv series. All it requires is runninga vnc server on the htpc.

The ipad does have drawbacks. For example I would like to develop software for it to use inhouse for my company however, that is currently not possible without jail breaking. Not the best solution. So a windows 7 based slate is something I am keen to have a look at later. But for now the ipad is simply wicked.

I like the look of the Blackberry Pad better because it has full Flash and Java capabilities. Furthermore, it has a complete OS and seems to be more functional in that regard.  Apart from that, it looks like a nice little unit.

I don't know that I'd ever need one or get one, but if that ever changes I think the Blackberry most likely would get the nod over the iPad.

I'm using one right now, I love my iPad. It's better than any internet surfer to date. I can surf the web all day and it won't even get hot All other devices will get hot and burn your leg. The only way to appreciate one is to get one. I highly recommend it. I bought the best one they make. 3G 64 gig. I can't imagine anything replacing my iPad. I have every app. Imaginable ,22 movies, thousands of songs, 3d games. All this and I took time out to write this review. You tell me, is it worth it. YES!!!!!!! Get one now!!!!!!

Yes I agree starkers. I think when it becomes available here in canada I will try that one. Seems to me they thought of things the ipad neglects. Even common sense things like a usb port. How can you not have a usb port?
