Whether you are interested in one or not, at least you can be thankful the rumors are done and that the much speculated iPad is announced.

For the most part, it really seems like a big iPhone or iPod Touch.  They also introduced the iBook Store which seems to obviously be going directly after the Kindle and the Amazon book store.   Base price is $499 with options like 3G connectivity and more storage space that can bring it over $800.

I’m still looking over the details, but it certainly is an interesting device, but certainly not game changing.  It won’t be out for a few months so I guess we have time to think about.

Can you jump a shark with it?

Well, I'm going against convention and I'm planning to order the 32GB wifi model. I usually lug my MBP with me, but I don't need all that power 95-percent of the time. At the same time, I like reading news and such on my iPhone, but the screen size and slow speed are a detriment. The iPad might fit the bill for my needs.

Ouch. Nice find. I do like MS Courier ... a foldable tablet. But Daiwa might be right. Healthcare has always used Tablets. Battery life is very important, there. Portability is as well.

The way it stands, the one app at a time and lack of multitasking is a critical defect. Healthcare would have use for a camera to photograph all manner of lesions or even problems arising in patient care.

It's current lack of multitasking, and lack of camera....nope.

Does anyone use E-readers to read magazines, newspapers, books, pdfs? I'm considering to buy one. It seems easy on the eyes and saves u carrying all those books on hollidays. What about the kindle?

GJDriessen...did a little looking and came up with.. 1. link  2. link 3. link

For the difference of about $100 (+/-) you're losing a lot of functionality...although, You'll need to do the side by side comparison, buying a Kindle just for vacations and then shlepping a lot of other devices and their chargers ... seems a bit of a drag....not that I'm a supporter of the iPad.

Perhaps the item woth considering is the one you didn't mention...the HP Slate which will be running a full version of W7, and seems would be more adaptable to multitasking that the iPad or Kindle 2 ... LINK.

I honestly don't see the point of spending $500 on an oversized Ipod Touch. Especially considering that nebooks run at $150-400 range now, and are a lot more versatile.

With that $500, I can spend $330 on a Pandora and save the rest. Now that's something worth buying.

nope, have no need for one and I like hard copy books checked out at the public library for free.

I stand with most of the people here and I won't buy an Ipad. I'd either buy an ipod touch or a HP Slate instead, both are more useful. Anyways, books just look great on a shelf in my house... and I must admit I'm proud of making sure every one of them still looks as good as new even after I've read them a few times. I don't think eBooks would keep me coming for more.

"Do note that we’re talking about remotely controlling your computer here, not installing Windows 7 on the iPad."

Too bad.

Dang it, Po -

That actually might work - we're running a hosted EMR via a Citrix client now.

Veeeery interesting.  With a charging pad, might be doable.

Now I gotta be thinkin about it for months.  Thanks.

@DrJBHL

Thanks a lot for your advise. I'm going to read those articles. I like an e-reader though since it has a long battery life and has the special technology which reduces eye strain.

Nopers from me. I just got a windows 7 pc. And I really don't think I'd use it....
