We are excited to announce the release of LogonStudio 1.7 today.  For years, LogonStudio from Stardock has been the most popular way to easily change the Windows logon screen to one of the thousands available for download, or by easily creating your own using your favorite wallpapers or images.

LogonStudio 1.7 can apply logons to Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  Creating your own logon is as simple as dragging an image to the configuration window and saving it.  You can also download any of the thousands available on WinCustomize.com

More information about LogonStudio can be at the LogonStudio website, and you can get your free download from here, or via Impulse.

LogonStudio 1.7 can apply logons to Windows XP
No can do, the only thing this version of LogonStudio can do is change the background image. Yet again another alpha-release from Starmock...

I must say that I can only agree with Yrgal. Did someone really test this at Stardock before they unleased it on their customers???? On XP, it just changes the background and nothing else and makes your logons look like a piece of crap. Was this supposed to be a beta or alpha release?????

It is intended just to change the background of the logon in XP, just as it does with Vista or Win7. There are links out there to the XP version if you prefer, but as XP is a legacy OS the focus going forward is newer operating systems.

So let me understand . This new Logonstudio, changes only the picture, that is it...no changing fonts, words,  etc.?  And this is true for XP, Vista and Win7?  Where is the fun the creativity?

on Jan 21, 2010

MS prevents much customization of the logon in Vista and 7 so Stardock did the best they could with what they had with those.  If you want to do more with  XP you will need to use the legacy versions of LogonStudio.  For many, many users, just changing the background is better than nothing and good enough.

I have XP, if I download this, paste an image in it , will it also work on Vista and 7 ?  Or the reverse if I have Vista or 7...will the logon work in all three?

on Jan 21, 2010

So where is this legacy version located so I can download it? Not that I use LogonStudio right now....but it would be good to have a working version for XP in case I decide to use it in the future. Just because there is this bashing of XP going on now doesn't mean it's a crap OS...it works just fine for many of us. It's a shame it's getting kicked to the curb again.

The links I see and found leading to LogonStudio say "everything" can be customized for all 3 OS's but from what I'm reading here that isn't so.

Looks like you CAN"T randomize Logons with this version. Am I correct? If so. I'll just keep the version I have.

I'm back on the old XP version of Logon Studio as the new release doesn't work on my XP Media Center Edition at all. All I get is the blue standard XP logon screen. So much for improvement.

XP is a "legacy OS" is it? Interesting!! When XP is still the prodominant OS in use throughout the world ?? Whilst this new release is compatitable with XP, the truth of the matter is this latest version is a backward step for XP users with little or no abilities to control or apply forms of customization. No worries, back to the old version on my XP laptop and for those that will surely follow you can download the old version here http://download.cnet.com/LogonStudio/3000-2344_4-10328443.html
