In part 1 I went over the components I purchased to upgrade my aging PC.  The motherboard and RAM came in on a Friday, and the CPU came on Monday, so my weekend building plans were lost.  But once everything arrived it was time to disassemble the old PC and get it upgraded with these new parts.

I have to say this Gigabyte motherboard is the best I have ever used, especially at this price.  It has a very detailed manual, the board itself is well laid out, and very easy to get everything in.

Oh, this ATI 4850 is sweet!

Alright, everything is in, the wires are nicely put away, and it’s time to test.

…and nothing…..doesn’t boot.  Upon further inspection, I forgot to check and see if the power supply could handle all these goodies, and the obviously answer was no.  A quick run to the store and a new Antec power supply later, it finally works!

Up next, I’ll go through some essential applications to install.
