The WinCustomize Poll is back, and to start it off we have a question suitable to the big tech news this week, which is the public release of Windows 7 RC.  If you are interested, you can download Windows 7 RC from here

This weeks poll is simple.  Have you downloaded the Windows 7 RC?

Yes and have various new programs running fine here. Including Multiplicity Pro with Impulse.

Yes. Will install it this weekend, hopefully.

No, I am going to wait untill it's released for retail sale.  I have a new computer with Vista Home Premium and can wait.

Here's a question I don't think I've seen ask or answered.  If you download the RC are you getting the upgrade for free or will you have to get a retail copy when it's released and load it?

on May 06, 2009

No. I see no point in installing an OS that will "expire" since I won't have the money to purchase it when released and am perfectly happy with the OS I am using now. Also,I paid for ODNT Ultimate and wish to continue using and enjoying it. All of it.

Windows7 phones home automatically and will be shutting my computer off every two hours starting March 1,2010? No thanks Microsoft!

Wizard, you want to expand on this?  I don't think I've seen this mentioned by anyone.

I think is great that you can use a new OS for free for an entire year,  thanks Microsoft

Click on the external link in the OP and read it. I couldn't make this up,only from the minds at Microsoft.

The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use.

It expires March 1st 2010 and unless you remove it or purchase the full version it will reboot every 2 hours.

I didn't click the link because I'm not going to download the RC.  Oh well, that's something I won't have to put up with.

Hmmm, the !st of March 2010, oops, just when you are in the middle of doing your 2009 Taxes.

So is this saying then that Win 7 is not going to be released in 2009?

I read that as saying that the final release will be before March 1st, 2010. So if you don't want to have interuption, buy a retail copy or remove it before then. If you don't, you'll have to put up with the 2 hour reboots until the RC does finally expire on June 1, 2010. What's the issue here? You can use a new OS for an entire year for free! That's a pretty good timeframe to decide if you like it or not imo. I'm with Diafragma, thanks Microsoft.

Well to be fair, this is not the retail release.  Otherwise they would be giving away a free copy of their OS.

I'm not downloading the RC but wouldn't that be a nice way to repay folks that were beta testing your piece of software?  I'm just saying what a nice jesture that would be, consumer good will and all.

Of course the same question that comes up everytime a new version of an OS comes out is 'What's wrong with the one I'm using?'  Sorry.  Ooops I was going to delete that but hit the post button.

Oh, there is an 'edit button'.  I'm such a bad boy!

Hmmm, nearly a 1 year fully functional trial. Not a bad deal at all!

I've downloaded both the x86 and x64 flavors and installed it on a domain pc (laptop). Unfortunately, neither Anti-Virus solution we use is compatible with it. (symantec endpoint 11 or Trend Micro Office Scan).

An alternative AV solution on this network is not an option at all. I don't see the AV Vendors breaking their backs to be compliant on a RC OS either.

Let's just hope it doesn't suffer the same vendor induced problems that Vista had.

This version of the beta is not restricted to a certain number of users.  Anyone that wants to can get it.  That would mean anyone could dl the RC, MS would give them a free copy and not get any money for the software.  Makes no sense.

It's already a nice jesture that they are allowing people to use the OS for AN ENTIRE YEAR.
