Check out this video of Elemental: War of Magic, which was shown at the 2009 GDC.

Is that the fabled cloth map we see when fully zoomed out? Or is that the "proper" one?

Also, big laughs for the item names. Any of that be in the "real" game or is that just devs goofing off?

Looks great

If items are submitted by users, I'm sure there will be plenty of crazy item names.  Some of the vanilla items do need to keep their originality too though  .  It was pretty disappointing when the Demigod AI names went from funny random stuff to standard fantasy names.

Excellent video---indeed the Roguelike is STRONG within this game.

Ooooooow ..... Interesting to see the dev touted zooming in action.. which is much as I expected, but that's good

I really hate when developers release games today that run on the computers of tomorrow. Elemental looks nice and scalable though like the rest of Stardock's games.

Now onto beta questions since Brad keeps teasing about it:

1. Has Stardock decided how it's going to handle the initial Betas?

I ask because I believe I read Stardock was thinking about only inviting people, during inital beta stages, who had been helpful in previous betas. I think was due to a lot more people preordering Elemental than previous games. Sorry if I'm remembering incorrectly.

2. Will the modding tools, like the Particle Editor, be available for testing during beta?

OOOHHH Pretty!

That is very impressive!  I never expected something that was so well animated.  You have outdone yourself, and you aren't even done with it yet.

EDIT:  Now that I have seen the video a couple dozen times (I was bored), I have to say that I was impressed because I didn't expect much.  (none of the other games I have of yours has any character animation, so any animation was much better than expected for me.)  The walking (running?) animation could use some work, but the rest is adequate enough that if it shipped like that I would be completely fine with it.

One day....one day I may be a developer.....hopefully...

Man, I love the part where they add the sword and the characters arm is being pulled down by its weight. The character goes sth like: "What the f... Oh, nice!"

It looks great. Too bad I won't be able to preorder it to get into the beta(unpayed salaries, gotta love'm), but next year I'm going to be all over it

Cool What I realy do like is the free-form world, most modern TBS games (HoMM5 etc) you can only move around on predesignated paths, while in older games you had way more freedom to move around (Age of wonders series and older HoMM i believe). Btw. how big can the maps get? I would love to play this in a huge world

Nothing all that exciting going on, but it's nice to see some video finally!  Keep em coming.

I agree.

Hmm... I can't seem to view it.  After I click play, it acts like it finished viewing the video.  I'll try from another computer or give it a bit of time in the event Gamespot is doing something behind the scenes.
