So with just over a month of Obama officially being President, and since elected in November, the stock market has lost well over 2000 points (didn't hear much in the media about that), they have pushed a trillion dollar "stimulus" plan, promised "free" healthcare and college to everyone, and higher taxes.

Yesterday, the markets closed under 7000 and I would imagine we will see more of a drop today.  So, how is that socialism working out for you so far?

Pretty good.

Comrade ID, you are not assimilating to the new order properly, you may need to go to the re-education camp if your attitude does not improve. Please stare into your commemorative Obama plate (or coin) and chant "Yes we can" until you can speak no more.

The scary thing is that the local department stores are now selling out of framed Oboma pictures.

It just creeps me out because any time I see pictures of Soviet Union, Maoist China, Nazi Germany, Cuba and now Venezuala I see their great leaders hanging in every home.

I am willing to bet there is a good percentage of Obama supporters who do in fact have his picture hanging somewhere in their house.

So with just over a month of Obama officially being President, and since elected in November, the stock market has lost well over 2000 points

In the last month it's lost ~1200 - are you including time that bush was president to get your figure? Looking at the response of the stock market on the day of a massive policy annoucement is one thing, but to look at a period of a month, and equate any changes in the stock marget as a reflection on Obama is another altogether. Given how volatile the stock markets have been, and how they are just continuing a massive downward trend (under Bush they've lost ~5k points from last year), doing such things is at best unreliable, and at worst highly misleading.

The markets response to Obama and his economic plans are quite obvious.  The same goes for the response to the so-called "stimulus" bill which Obama passed.

If you look at the DJIA at 1980 it was just under 3000 pts. With that in my mind things aren't as bad as they seem.  Don't get me wrong I'm not pulling a McCain and saying everything is peach and cream with a bed of roses.

Losing 1,200 points is a huge thing.  aeortar, you failed to mention that under bush that the DJIA hit its hittest market to date. To say that 'such things is at best unreliable, and at worst highly misleading' is fair from the truth.

DJIA is impacted by the government.  Granted, the government is not the only thing that it impacts.

In reality, the stock market was reaching its peak due to muliple reasons.  My theory is what goes up most come down and vice versa.

One thing that I will mention is that people from the States (I am from the States) need some self-control.  Just because you have a credit card does not mean you need to use it to buy everything and then any ugly thing.

Well unless, you're doing your part to stimulate the economy WELL then SPEND SPEND SPEND.

Speaking of the government.  Since a lot of people have spending issues and a lot of people have debt issues how do we expect people that we elect into Congress to be any different then the people that they represent?  Our government should mirror what the people do.

Don't get me wrong not every one has spending issues.  I for one am currently debt free, but that doesn't mean I am cheap/stingy.  I do understand that there are high expectantions for elected government officals yet they are still people.

Pertaining to my first paragraph here: ID I am not saying that most people are in support of Socialism.

Our government should mirror what the people do.

So are you saying most Americans are tax cheats, liars, and thief's? How many sex offenders should we have in office? Shouldn't they be represented? IMO when they have the trust of the people in their hands they need to be held to the highest standards. Yes that means being a better person than most folks they represent. They are too well compensated for me to feel sorry for if they have a bad day and screw up others rights including taxes.

One thing I will agree with you on is that the majority of them should be earning minimum wage, just like many Americans do.

I only still owe on my student loan.  My wife and I have enough in our "Emergency" savings account to get us through several months if for some terrible reason are out of work.  Thanks to Mr. Ramsey for the idea.

Are you saying that most government officals are tax cheats and thieves? Obviously your questions are absurd. Ummm I'm not sure how you took it as me saying that everyone should be represented in the government. Or how you took it as me saying that most people in the U.S are sex offenders (I'm not surprised that a lot of the government officals have some type of sexual problem though because a decent amount of people in the States have some type of sexual problem).  What I was saying was how can we be suprised that they, the government, act a certain way when a lot of people, people in the U.S., act the same way.

The example I used was spending.  Most people in the States they have debt because we've been told for the last 15+ years that having some debt is good.  Pitch that example, since that one was misunderstood.

Here's a quite of what I mean.  Vince McMahon (owner of the WWF) said this 'You can learn a lot about a society through their entertainment.  In other words, the entertainment will give a glimps of what that society is like.'  No I'm not saying that everyone in the U.S is murderer nor am I saying that or my statement in my last post is an ALL STATEMENT.  What I was saying is that the government being made up of people from all different classes (mostly middle to upper middle) will be a mirror of how people in the U.S act.  'A government for the people, by the people'

I don't think the government should be paid minium wage.  I don't think they should be earning 190,000 on average nor be getting the best health care benefits.

When I go to work I can't vote myself a raise!  I don't think very many people can actually vote themselves a raise (AND actually decide what that raise will be).  I don't think they should be able to vote for their own raises either!  We should be voting if they get a pay raise or not.

In reality, if that was the case, I think that a lot of the political misconduct would be curved.

I was hoping beyond hope that those of us who were being dismissed as "right wing nutjobs" would turn out to be wrong, but it seems like Obama turned out to be everything we feared he would be and then some. None of us are happy about this because its not the kind of validation that one can ce;ebrate.
