Well I finally got Windows 7 installed on my laptop.  The only issue I had was getting the partitioning right, but that was my problem.

Installation took about 10 minutes, and in about 20 minutes overall I was on the desktop ready to work.  Very impressive!

So far, Windows 7 seems very fast and haven’t run into any problems as of yet.  No problems with application compatibility yet, and I’m really liking some of the design changes.

Still have a lot to go through, but my initial quick impression is great!

Windows 7 looks good, only issue I have is the Superbar kind of sucks. I like the idea on paper but in use it's a mess.

So maybe Stardock could come up with something better?

Opportunities...

Opportunities.

HOW Jafo!!?!?!?!!?!! I'm with them too, wtf is going on with them!! I d/load at 25k max

Depends on your plan/if you have exceeded your monthly limit... if you have then you've been slowed to dial up speeds until your account resets to the next billing period.

Not saying that is the case, but it's worth checking out... cos if not you need to have them check out your connection, etc.

After installing Win 7 on Sunday, then Firefox cos it's my preferred browser, I thought that it wasn't  running overly great, as compared to in Vista, and then it dawned on me that the 3.5 gig download may have taken me over the monthly limit. Sure enough, it had... but fortunately it reset yesterday and I'm back to 1500mbs Adsl again

Alternatively, TG, it could be that the folks at Bigpond have noticed all those pics of Hugh Jackman you've been downloading and cut back your speed to prevent at bottleneck in your area.

@pm1: Thanks for that tip, was wondering why I could only get one partition of one drive to show up right

I had only the drive with all my media file go MIA when I installed Win 7... took a little while to figure out why, but yeah, a look in 'Disk Management' revealed that a drive letter had not been assigned to that partition... just that one of 9, for some strange reason, but assigning it a letter quickly resolved it.

Also, for anyone who finds their PC frozen and can't wake normally after Win 7 goes into sleep, you will need to do a hard boot via the on/off button to reactivate it.  I have sent off a report to MS about this, so they are aware of it and a fix will be provided soon.

I installed Windows 7 and no problems first day! Next day I loaded My Colors and one extra theme and cannot load explorer, open control panel, use snipping tool, some others. Acessories programs load and function but I cannot even open restore to previous time........... Any suggestions short of format and reload using my restore discs? (mitchell_emil@yahoo.com)

I installed it on my unused 80GB hdd yesterday, and tried playing Crysis Warhead on it. Honestly, i don't see any difference in performance. It starts faster than the Vista i have as a primary OS, but that is propably caused by all the junk i have starting with Vista. W7 UI has some nice features, but nothing special. So far, i've seen nothing that would make me want to have W7 instead of Vista. The Hard drive i have W7 installed is slower than the drive i have Vista, and also has smaller cache, so that may have some effect on it's speed, though. I'll keep using it anyway, maybe i'll find something missed.

BTW, when running W7 i can't see the drive where i have Vista installed, but from Vista i can see and access the drive with W7. Does this happen to anyone else?

See #34 above and #23 on page one... there are steps posted to remedy this situation.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and uninstalling MyColors via Impulse or Control Panel>Programs and Features???

It might be worth a try if you haven't.

I've got it up and running now... kind of nice. First impression? It's like a cross between Vista/XP/and a linux distro... mostly like PCLOS. I have to break it in a bit but it looks nice and responds pretty well too.

THis thing is cool now thats its starting to take shape... although I see Bill installed his typical nannystatisms warning me of all potential hazards and assorted things that "require my attention"

It may be a better OS but I suppose I'm wondering why no one but Brad had mentioned the 9 foot high taskbar

I have a similar, but different problem. I wanted to install 7 as a dual boot with Vista onto a second drive already on my system. But when I try, 7 don't see that drive. It sees my C drive and my G drive (external) but not my F drive, internal.

starkers, I'm on the unlimited plan, I don't think I downloaded 6 + gig pics of Hugh Jackman dat's Immy's man

Hey it's their modem, their plan, why have I only ever been able to d/l at 25k

It's a conspiracy.. you and Jafo are plugged into a satellite..or..something

Have you tried going into your disk management and checking if it shows up there? Win 7 seems to have an issue with assigning drive letters after the first two or three drives. After going into DM and assigning it a letter I could regain full access when i had that issue

ah Zubaz beat me to it , btw that is the post I saw as well but at Gc2 forums lol
