The latest edition of the Demigod Developer on RPG Vault at IGN.com is now out.  Demigod is the upcoming real-time tactical strategy game from developer Gas Powered Games, and published by Stardock.

Diary #2 focuses on the single-player aspect of Demigod.

“These days, it gets very tempting for developers to forget how many people play these kinds of games exclusively single-player. That's why we made a great deal of effort to not just create the standard campaign for Demigod, but something they would continue to enjoy over and over. Sure, there's still the sandbox skirmish mode too, but for those who want an on-going single-player experience, this title really shines.”

Backstories.

Solid article, always nice to have a Single Player different from a scripted campaign. Like something you'd expect from a fghter with an Accade Mode.

I had been so focused on multiplayer i'd almost forgotten there was a single player

"Each of the eight playable demigods"

I certainly hope there are at least a few more heros in the multiplayer aspect of the game, it would be kinda lame to have many instances of the same hero in every single team game you play. Regardless of how many different ways you can customize each. When I play multiplayer I like the idea of having my own unique hero that i'm using, rather then seeing 4 Rooks and 4 Torchbearers running around at the same time on the map.

Mind you I was not in beta 1 and have no clue as to how many heros ther are or how the multiplayer actually plays out and feel with these heros.

Can't wait for the next beta so I can join in!!!!!!!

Still 8 demigods even in multiplayer. I believe GPG is going to add more demigods later on. Hopefully

It'll be plenty. With more to look forward too as well.

You would NOT want a team of the same Demigods for a serious game. (But that might be fun to mess around with )

Looks promising. Hopefully it's not all talk and no do, because singleplayer aspects are indeed overlooked these days. Also, shame that so little demigods are in the initial release, but I guess that'll improve over time...

And beta 2 would be nice.

I really don't feel a reasonable number such as 8 demigods is small.  In many games you have class types and that works just fine for multiplayer.  Look at TF2.  The real question is are the 8 done well.  If they are slapped todether, that is a huge problem, but from beta 1, we have seen this is not the case.  And as has been stated numerous times, 1 demigod can be very different from another depending on ability and item load out.  It is actually shocking how different they can play.

Love that screenshot.

Yeah, I'd rather have 8 well-made than 24 imbalanced. But most of all I'd like to have 24 well-made.

And wow. Single player campaign? I didn't even know that would be included when I pre-ordeded, just assumed it was multiplayer only.

on Dec 02, 2008

I've posted before that i would prefer more than 8 demigods but i dont think that 8 is anywhere near unreasonble, if your surprised that there are only going to be 8 then read more threads.

PS. I am mostly in this game for the competitive multiplayer but its nice to know that the single player will be diferent.

Any complaints about the number of Demigods has no base until we get Beta 2 and get a good look at how the skill trees are supposed to look/how extensive they are supposed to be.

While 8 well-made Demigods are definitely better than 32 crap-laden balance nightmares, it still... STILL feels clumsily small. Now, 10, that would be more like it, that way you can get 5v5 matches going, with every demigod being unique, this should be the bare minimum, at least in my opinion. Sure, you could have a damage-Rook, tank-Rook and a tower-spewing support-Rook in the same match, but it'll still be the same Rook. I'm not asking for much (even though making just one Demigod is actually a lot of work), have 2 more in the final release, and you'll get a lot less moaning and much more fun results in general.

I'm excited to play sp in demigod, I hope it is in the new beta 2 release.

I am also very excited to see the persistant online metagame.

I agree, I think 10 is very reasonable considering the 5v5 map.  They are stating that we will get at least 2 more demigods and 2 more maps post-release.  Hopefully is sells well and with a micro-expansion we can get 16 demigods and 16 maps with a few added feature.

Hopefully indeed.

I dont think single player will be in beta 2 because thecampaign is like a tournament with some info inbetween but in beta 1 can't u play comp players or am i just imagining this. As others said they are making it come out with 8 but hope to have more coming soon. I guess it rreally depends on how well it sells. If it sellls well they make make an expansion or just a decent  amount of up[dates so dodn't get down just cause it says 8. based upon what people said about the engine test (beta 1) things are looking good. This means more maps more demigods and other stuff. I might also ass that people greatly enjoyed beta 1 which was not made to be fun and didn't have any of the rts element( the generals) that will make it so even more people buy the game.
