Every day I visit tons of website, forums, and social networks for all types of topics, most of which are technology based in some sort of form.  This election cycle has really brought out the best of the liberal “group think” mentality regarding Obama.  On just about every social network Obama is praised as “the one” and any hint of disagreement with his policies or ideals is immediately responded with accusations of racism, or just plain insults.  Anybody who wants to claim that liberals are tolerant to others, please give me a shout because I can quickly debunk that.  Even here on our network of sites, there have been insults tossed at the slightest hint of either supporting McCain, or being against Obama.  I’m certainly not saying conservatives don’t dish out their fair share, but the mentality of liberals has once again bordered on the insane and hateful.

It’s tough being a proud conservative, as I will say what I think regardless of what the group and mob mentality is.  The real shame is so many people, especially bloggers in the tech area, are afraid to do the same.  I have received so many private notes and comments in support of standing up for conservatism, it’s almost crazy.  The best comparison I can make is how conservative actors in Hollywood are often ridiculed or turned down for roles because of their conservative beliefs, and the same mentality is going on right now in the blogosphere.  Conservative bloggers, some of which can be considered A-list are having to remain silent about their thoughts on Obama and McCain, simply because they are afraid of retribution from their employers or just not being able to pickup work from other sites.  It’s a shame, and it’s more telling about liberals than it is anything.

I am a conservative, I don’t like Obama, and I will never let anyone intimidate me because of that.

no different than telling people to fear the bush legacy.. now is it?

Um, we're not.  We're fearing what Bush has done TODAY and for the past 8 years.  We're VOTING to try and undue the damage.  Bush's legacy is already set in the stone of infamy.

..and fearmongering online..

Whats good for the goose

on Nov 02, 2008

The things my grandfather and father passed along to me that I fear are quickly becoming a myth, to be replaced with apathy, entitlement and liberalism.

All you have to do is ask any 20 year old to discover that it's Bush's policies that have made it harder to pursue the American Dream.  And they are the reason that old corrupt guard is being swept away in this sea change.

I don't consider baseline health care for every citizen an uneccessary entitlement.  I see it as humane and long overdue.

I saw the apathy you mention...until Obama motivated the apathetic young in this election.  Whether he's your man or not, I assume you will join me in saying that this energized movement is anything but apathetic and is good for the country long term.

And as I've said before, "liberal" is just a conservative fear-phrase for "progressive".  And the nature of human society is ultimately always on a slow path to change and progress.

The idylic times you refer to regarding your father and grandfather were times where women were treated like cattle, where a rich man could kill any poor man and pay a fine, where black men were killed as "less that human", where millions died of diseases we've long since cured, and families had to have lots of children because the odds were that many of them wouldn't live to see adulthood.  Etc. etc.  So, today's accepted values were yesterday's "liberal" values.

And it is natural to be hesitant about change.  We get comfortable in our own skins and change challenges us on who we are.  Quite scary for people who've come to accept certain aphorisms as "truth" rather than just "opinion".  So, as I've said earlier, there is a natural balance between the forces of progress and nostalgia.

I'm talking primarily of Social progress, of course, as ironically, if Bush had been a true conservative, he would have shut down those reckless Wall Street gamblers a long time ago and would have never deregulated, would he?

But as for me, I'm not afraid of change.  Not yet anyway.

The Iraq War.  The greatest financial disaster since the Great Depression.  $6 Trillion in new national debt during just 8 years of GWB more than all the debt of all the prior presidents.

But why be concerned?  Just keep voting for the status quo.

..and fearmongering online..

If anything, I've attempted to bring about a sense of Justice and/or Revenge for the crimes of the past 8 years.  I don't see as how I have been spreading "fear".   Except to say that I don't believe McCain will "change" anything and that he has shown, with the way he's run this campaign (as opposed to 2000), that he really will be four more years of Bush.  And, 74%+ of the American people do NOT want to see us stay on the same path, regardless of who wins the White House.  So I think Obama is LESS likely to be Bush redux and McCain is MORE likely.

But that's hardly analogous to all the not very subtle race-baiting lies of "terrorist", "Muslim", etc.  That's fear-mongering at its very worst.  And the results are obvious, as I don't hear people shouting "kill Palin/McCain" at Obama's events at all - let alone on a daily basis.

So every politician from Chicago is a "thug"?!
of course

Does that mean every politician from San Francisco is "gay"?
another no-brainer

Or every politician from Florida is "Jewish"?
only South Florida until you get to Key West...then they're all gay

Only Or every politician from the midwest is a "rube"?
nope...this one I save for Obama supporters

ut that's hardly analogous to all the not very subtle race-baiting lies of "terrorist", "Muslim", etc. That's fear-mongering at its very worst.

haha...OK, this is 101.. there wouldnt be these claims.. had he NOT associated with these people...goodness.. you act like its the reps. doing something wrong by bringing up the associations.. dont associate in the first place.. eh?

I suppose its Bushes fault too that he pal'd around with low life's while gaining political power in Chicago?

George Bush and our military has kept YOU safe for 8 years, lest we forget.

When the dems come in, cut our defense budget and we are attacked because of our perceived weak leadership, you bunch are going to feel like a right bunch of idiots.

I'd feel ashamed to say some of the things said in just this thread. I'm almost ashamed to read them.

Right I believe anything ID.  The biggest criminals in office have been the current administration.  Oh right I keep forgetting this is poor helpless ID the lone wittle Conservative on the big bad Liberal internet.  No wonder you're so scared the big bad liberal wolves are gonna get ya ID.

Funny, I don't see any charges against them if they are "criminals".

I'm going to assume you are trying to be sarcastic, because believe me, I'm not afraid of anyone let alone whiny liberals.

I believe Obama actually intends to make a difference.

"Difference" and change are not exactly good things.  Ask Cubans about that.

But, in my opinion, McCain showed in this campaign he will do ANYTHING to get his one last gasp at that power, and I believe that means he will do ANYTHING to keep it.

And Obama hasn't?  Obama has shut down journalists that ask him or Biden tough questions.  He tried to enlist state police and prosecutors in shutting down his opponents.  Yeah, change.

He DIDN'T "publish a fake birth certificate".  In fact his REAL one was released by his campaign on factcheck.org apparently, but that wasn't good enough for the conspiracy theory nuts because Obama provided it...sigh.

It's been shown many times the certificate on Factcheck.org was the same as the one the Dailykooks had.  All Obama has to do is release the orignal certificate.  If he has nothing to hide, then what is the problem?  It's amazing that someone who wants to be President doesn't want a lot of his background known.  What's even worse is that his supporters don't even care.

Aside from Chicago associations, lets look at who else 0bama supports:

About 50 parishioners were locked into the Assemblies of God church before it was set ablaze. They were mostly women and children. Those who tried to flee were hacked to death by machete-wielding members of a mob numbering 2,000.

The 2008 New Year Day atrocity in the Kenyan village Eldoret, about 185 miles northwest of Nairobi, had all the markings of the Rwanda genocide of a decade earlier.

By mid-February 2008, more than 1,500 Kenyans were killed. Many were slain by machete-armed attackers. More than 500,000 were displaced by the religious strife. Villages lay in ruin. Many of the atrocities were perpetrated by Muslims against Christians.

Terrible stuff.....but....

Initially, Mr. Odinga was not the favored opposition candidate to stand in the 2007 election against President Mwai Kibaki, who was seeking his second term. However, he received a tremendous boost when Sen. Barack Obama arrived in Kenya in August 2006 to campaign on his behalf. Mr. Obama denies that supporting Mr. Odinga was the intention of his trip, but his actions and local media reports tell otherwise.

Mr. Odinga and Mr. Obama were nearly inseparable throughout Mr. Obama's six-day stay. The two traveled together throughout Kenya and Mr. Obama spoke on behalf of Mr. Odinga at numerous rallies. In contrast, Mr. Obama had only criticism for Kibaki. He lashed out against the Kenyan government shortly after meeting with the president on Aug. 25. "The [Kenyan] people have to suffer over corruption perpetrated by government officials," Mr. Obama announced.

"Kenyans are now yearning for change," he declared. The intent of Mr. Obama's remarks and actions was transparent to Kenyans - he was firmly behind Mr. Odinga.

But you Chicken Littles can keep up your endless the sky is falling drum beat all you want.  Only your choir of sheep who want protection from the big bad liberal internet wolves will be listening anyway.

on Nov 02, 2008

You should read some other sites, because they are all out there.  It's not smears, it's fact.  Please refute Obama's association with Odinga.

But you Chicken Littles can keep up your endless the sky is falling drum beat all you want.  Only your choir of sheep who want protection from the big bad liberal internet wolves will be listening anyway.

It's funny when an Obama supporter accuses conservatives of "sky is falling" tactics when that's all they have done in this thread.

on Nov 02, 2008

Oh I'm sorry there vStyler you're a journalist now... with a highly reguarded reputation for reporting.

Besides in two more days OB is going to be elected.  What are you phantom producers going to do then?
