Every day I visit tons of website, forums, and social networks for all types of topics, most of which are technology based in some sort of form.  This election cycle has really brought out the best of the liberal “group think” mentality regarding Obama.  On just about every social network Obama is praised as “the one” and any hint of disagreement with his policies or ideals is immediately responded with accusations of racism, or just plain insults.  Anybody who wants to claim that liberals are tolerant to others, please give me a shout because I can quickly debunk that.  Even here on our network of sites, there have been insults tossed at the slightest hint of either supporting McCain, or being against Obama.  I’m certainly not saying conservatives don’t dish out their fair share, but the mentality of liberals has once again bordered on the insane and hateful.

It’s tough being a proud conservative, as I will say what I think regardless of what the group and mob mentality is.  The real shame is so many people, especially bloggers in the tech area, are afraid to do the same.  I have received so many private notes and comments in support of standing up for conservatism, it’s almost crazy.  The best comparison I can make is how conservative actors in Hollywood are often ridiculed or turned down for roles because of their conservative beliefs, and the same mentality is going on right now in the blogosphere.  Conservative bloggers, some of which can be considered A-list are having to remain silent about their thoughts on Obama and McCain, simply because they are afraid of retribution from their employers or just not being able to pickup work from other sites.  It’s a shame, and it’s more telling about liberals than it is anything.

I am a conservative, I don’t like Obama, and I will never let anyone intimidate me because of that.

Do I have a right to own a gun? Do I have a right to have health care? Do I have a right to own a home? Do I have a right to expect others to pay for my protection from terrorists? Do I have a right to have an abortion?

Very interesting questions and I could answer them this easily:

Yes you have the right to own a gun, yes you have the right to have healthcare, yes you have the right to own a home, no you do not have the right to expect others to pay for protection or any of the other questions before this one. The last one, well, that was is not that simple.

hile I blame the Republican controlled congress and White House for the deregulation that allowed the current Credit Default Swap gambling on Wall Street fiasco to occur,

Just to keep things fair, all this started witha Democrat bill and the real bad stuff happened under a Democratic controlled house and senate.

I'd like to see the country change that. Thinking for the long term financial and social health of our nation and its people is the only way we'll stay the world's sole superpower, financially, and by direct result, militarily.

I agree, this is definitely something that needs to cghange. Bare in mind that I agree with Conservative views but I don't agree with people taking advantage of things and screwing the rest of the world in the process (See Fun with Dick and Jane for an example of a guy screwing everyone else). It's my personal believe that people in this country could achieve better lifestyles thru Condervative policies but it is the greedy bastards out there who mess everything up for everyone else. And when the lower people get screwed they run to mommy (gov't) to save and protect them and this is why Obama is winning. But scared people never think straight and this is why I say Obama will win not because hes the better candidate but because people are scared and scared people are usually ignorant people.

I believe in this country enough to sacrifice a little of whatever I make (and we're talking a penny or two on the dollar, folks) to see her continue to lead the world for centuries to come.

I believe in this country too, what I don't believe in is that when we are at the worst that we should drop the whole weight on the back of a few just because they can afford it. Biden claims its patriotic to pay higher taxes, so how can anyone who agree's with his accept a tax redution while letting a smaller group of people pick up the tab? Where is the fairness? 2 wrongs don't make a right no matter how you slice it. This country has the potential to be better again is we all just owned up to our responsibilities and stop the Gov't from treating us like programable robots, taking advantage of fear and ignorance to win elections for personal gain, and I am talking about both of the main parties and the 2 candidates for them.

I fear we are lost in symantecs.  If healthcare is a "right", then where is it?  Do you therefore believe that anyone without health insurance is being denied their civil rights? My issue was a the confusion of "rights" and an unfortunate sense of entitlement that seems to grow every election cycle.

Vast Majority? What is a "Vast Majority"? 50%+1?

74% disapproval ratings for Bush.  Not all of them are voting for Obama.  Some actually believe McCain.

Then take a fraction of that money and close the Mexican boarder.

The only thing that will keep this country from going upside down in a 4:2:1 (1 child is taxed to cover benefits of 2 parents who are taxed to provide benefits to 4 grandparents) situation is growth in working age population.

Do you know what is the ONLY country on Earth that is predicted to have a net increase in working age population over the next 50 years and can therefore expect it's GNP to remain stable and/or increase?

The US of A.

And do you know WHY we're are the only country that can say this?

Illegal immigration.

Yes, I think a great majority of Americans have an entitlement attitude. I talk to HR managers all the time who tell me they have a hard time finding people because the people they hire don't want to work 40, but want to get paid more.

Heaven forbid someone would want more for less.  Isn't that what the Wall Street scumbags just did en masse to bankrupt the country?!  At least when a working man wants a raise, he doesn't destroy the financial infrastructure of the free world to do it.

Regardless, you've just stated an opinion based on heresay.  No studies back up your position...period.

And I'm sure most of them know nothing about 0bama, his past, or his voting record. They surely can't list his accomplishments, even his own staff can't.

You mean working his way into the most presitigious position, the Harvard Law Review, doesn't trump Bush's credentials coming into office, Palin's today?!  That impresses the hell out of me.  But then again, I'm looking for a President who has the intellectual wherewithall to LEAD the world's most powerful nation, not some drinking buddy or American Idol wanna-be.

Look at all the waste that comes from the federal government, and then tell me they will spend the extra money wisely. Goodness.

Agreed 100%.  I'm actually a fiscal conservative but liberal on social policies.  I am FURIOUS at what Bush has done to our economy today and for decades to come and I am all for prudent spending cuts and getting as much bang for the buck out of tax dollar.  I'm just smart enough to know from personal business experience that "penny-wise, pound foolish" thinking sinks as many businesses as profligate spending.

The goal is to spend our money wisely, to promote busines growth, to keep jobs at home, and to keep taxes as low as is humanly possible.  I just believe that it is going to be impossible to pay off nearly $11 trillion in debt with just spending cuts.  I would LOVE to be proved wrong here on that!

in 4 years we will all be fair - and poor.

Unlike the past 8 years under Bush?  You want to keep McSame and the same failed policies?  I mean honestly, why not give the new guy a shot?

Thanks for covering that one, D2J.

Here's a great OPINION piece in Esquire today, which has traditionally waffled between conservative and liberal articles/positions over the years - though they are firmly supporting Obama for President.  I just think it does a good job of presenting perspective on this whole thing.  Enjoy, if you're of a mind to.

Other than the Iraq war and the fact that he will not stop the invasion from the south(which is just fine by you), what about the last 8 years?

I keep hearing this crap about the last 8 years! I have done just fine the last 8 years. What's your problem, not enough hand outs?
