Every day I visit tons of website, forums, and social networks for all types of topics, most of which are technology based in some sort of form.  This election cycle has really brought out the best of the liberal “group think” mentality regarding Obama.  On just about every social network Obama is praised as “the one” and any hint of disagreement with his policies or ideals is immediately responded with accusations of racism, or just plain insults.  Anybody who wants to claim that liberals are tolerant to others, please give me a shout because I can quickly debunk that.  Even here on our network of sites, there have been insults tossed at the slightest hint of either supporting McCain, or being against Obama.  I’m certainly not saying conservatives don’t dish out their fair share, but the mentality of liberals has once again bordered on the insane and hateful.

It’s tough being a proud conservative, as I will say what I think regardless of what the group and mob mentality is.  The real shame is so many people, especially bloggers in the tech area, are afraid to do the same.  I have received so many private notes and comments in support of standing up for conservatism, it’s almost crazy.  The best comparison I can make is how conservative actors in Hollywood are often ridiculed or turned down for roles because of their conservative beliefs, and the same mentality is going on right now in the blogosphere.  Conservative bloggers, some of which can be considered A-list are having to remain silent about their thoughts on Obama and McCain, simply because they are afraid of retribution from their employers or just not being able to pickup work from other sites.  It’s a shame, and it’s more telling about liberals than it is anything.

I am a conservative, I don’t like Obama, and I will never let anyone intimidate me because of that.

I just don't know why you guys keep wanting expensive things like Iraq war and not pay for it.

No one wants war in Iraq.  Just disagreements of the bset way to end it.  But to your point, there is a legimate debate about the best way to increase government revenues.  I am not aware of any tax increases that have accomplished that.   There has to be a strong discipline to reduce government spending first or any revenues simply get eaten up.  Give a politician a dollar and he will figure out a way to spend it.

Decreasing taxes, especially small business as they are the true growth engine will help growth and employment and create a stronger economy for a us all.  It is then up to Washington to have some self control and use the money to reduce the deficet and properly fund social security etc.

For me, the issue is not whether the very rich pay 1 or 4 % more but iti is the business that need the break to be competitive in the global economy where every other country has much lower business taxes.  It is a distraction to focus only on some hedge fund that made billions.

As for the rich, who ever that may be this week, it is nonsense to believe that taxing them and reducing taxes for everyone else to the point of giving tax credits to non payers will make up the difference needed for finacial sanity in this country.

Excuse me?! You honestly think the vast majority of the American public (you know, the ones voting for Obama next week) is "lazy" and "scrounging off the government"?!

Yes, I think a great majority of Americans have an entitlement attitude.  I talk to HR managers all the time who tell me they have a hard time finding people because the people they hire don't want to work 40, but want to get paid more.

Guess what.  The vast majority of my hard-working, quite intelligent, tax paying, educated colleagues, peers, and employees are voting for Obama too.

And I'm sure most of them know nothing about 0bama, his past, or his voting record.  They surely can't list his accomplishments, even his own staff can't.

I'm not sure where you came up with the idea that America is a "welfare state" society, but compared to the rest of the free world, we're downright stingy when it comes to taking care of our own.

It's not the responsiblity of the federal government to "take care" of our lives.  Entitlements have done more harm than anything.

No we MUST have tax increase. Not tax cuts or keep current system.

Then increase taxes on everyone, and start taxing the poor.

Anyways, tax increases are not a must.  Look at all the waste that comes from the federal government, and then tell me they will spend the extra money wisely.  Goodness.

Greed is with us always, and it knows no party affiiation and created wacko behavior in many areas, not just wall street.

We  agree yet again!

Then take a fraction of that money and close the Mexican boarder.

Oops! there goes are third largest oil import source!  Right behind Canada, #1 and Saudi Arabia#2. VENEZUELA is #4 and wouldn't Chavez just love some more leverage!

on Oct 29, 2008

Pull out of Iraq, turn it over to the government in place and tell them to get their shit under control or we will be back with the Air Force, not ground troops. Then take a fraction of that money and close the Mexican boarder.

Tell that to the Iranians. Maliki has a snow ball's chance in hell with them around.

As for the Mexican border? LOL....and a President who can't even build a fence? Or the Corporations which instructed him not to do so?

It wasn't a question of money Drilln' Boss. It was Elections and Power....and more unemployed Americans.

Very true.

Liberals are insecure whiners that need someone to take care of them. The libs will not be happy till everyone makes the same wage, no mater what their job is(or is not).

Let me make this clear. I am a conservative but I think Bush is a total jerk. I don't consider McCain a conservative. I just can't tote the party line. Since third partys are discouraged in this county, I must vote for McCain because Obama is bad news.

Since everyones avoiding responding....anyone want to address this...from a page 4 post in this thread......Excalpius?

An interesting email. Something to think about.

Pull out of Iraq ?!

Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago ?

Body count:

In the last six months:

292 killed (murdered) in Chicago ;

221 killed in Iraq .

Chicago.... Who Runs it:

Senators: Barack Obama & [censored] Durbin

Rep: Jesse Jackson Jr.,

Illinois Gov: Rod Blogojevich,

Illinois House leader Mike Madigan,

Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike),

Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of Mayor Richard J. Daley)

.....our leadership in Illinois .....all Democrats.

Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago .

Of course, they're all blaming each other!

Can't blame Republicans; they're aren't any!

State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country.

2nd highest taxed state in the U.S.

Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look 'em up if you want).

Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.

This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois . And he's gonna 'fix' Washington politics for us?

The libs will not be happy till everyone makes the same wage, no mater what their job is(or is not).

Well marxism is all about a classless society.  It's OK to be poor and miserable, as long as everyone else is too!

NOT make it a lie.....

Obfuscation then.

it's pretty safe to say that the vast overwhelming majority of these Wall Street scumbags vote Republican year after year, because it is in their own selfish interest to do so, of course.

In fact it is NOT safe to say. Stereotypic thinking is not safe, nor is it fair. The greed wasn't limited to ppeople because of race, religion, politics, hair color or any other "splitter" criterion. It is a trait of ALL people throughout recorded (and probably prerecorded) history.

Indeed!  Franklin Raines, Bloomberg, Paul Krugman - I know Bllomberg voted republican once in his life.  For himself before he flip flopped again.

While I blame the Republican controlled congress and White House for the deregulation that allowed the current Credit Default Swap gambling on Wall Street fiasco to occur, I wouldn't argue that "greed" is uniquely one party or the other's mantra.

Blame them all you want.  It does not make it true, just blinds you to the truth of the matter and almost guarantees it will happen again.  Denial of the truth is no defense.

The country is all about redistribution of wealth in one form or another.

No, it is about growing the pie, not slicing a fixed pie into ever smaller pieces until we all starve.

Keep spinning those meaningless spin phrases. They are a shortcut to thinking, after all.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for an intellectual, factual rebuttal from you in regards to, well, anything anyone has said here. Honestly!

Save your snot-nosed schoolyard bravado.  Honestly!

on Oct 29, 2008

Actually, no, and it's $250,000.

That depends - is Biden a loose cannon or an idiot.  Your choice, but the answer will determine if you are right or wrong. But you are wrong anyway.  Obama has already lowered himself to $200k.

We are. We're voting for him, after all. Or have you not been paying attention to the polls?

So to a liberal, "Voluntary" means you force everyone to do what you will not do?

Because they do it by moving operations off shore.

ALL of them do?  And of course you have empirical data to support your statement?

Which is exactly the opposite of waht Obama intends to do.

When confronted with these facts, Obama changed his stance and then stated it was about "Fairness" not job creation or growing the economy.

in 4 years we will all be fair - and poor.

on Oct 29, 2008

Excuse me?! You honestly think the vast majority of the American public (you know, the ones voting for Obama next week)

Vast Majority?  What is a "Vast Majority"?  50%+1?

on Oct 29, 2008

anyone want to address this.

That's sad. The whole damn country could end up like that.

Any of you libs going to address this?
