I have always been a Democrat and agree that the selection of Obama was a horrible one.  The thing is that I really don't believe he was ELECTED as much as SELECTED by the bigwigs at the DNC.  I think of the leadership of the DNC failed horribly.  The fact is that 18 million voters voted for Obama and 18 million voted for Hillary.  There was no landslide choice of Obama.  18 million mostly Democrats knew he wasn't the guy. 

The DNC needs to change their primary selection process.  Obama will be the nominee because of caucuses and superdelegates.  The funny thing is that that system was put in place to put a viable general election candidate on the ticket, not someone who is to the far left and unelectable in the general election.  I really don't think that Obama will hold up in the general election.  I know that I won't be voting for him. 

It is interesting that wanting to know Obama's view on an issue = the asker is a racist. For someone running on hope & change - he certainly is the same old stuff.

This election cycle has really opened my eyes - wider! The Dems are all about greed, race, sex and America stinks.

The elections come down to the choice between the two candidates.  I'll take McCain at least he has an idea of what his postions are.

I would like to see last night's forum used more often.

Obama is a fine candidate, and I'm sure he can do wonders for this country where President Bush and his administration has failed oh-so much.

Interesting, though one could say the same thing about Republicans. That's quite a vague statement.

If you think high taxes and no real stand on any position is "wonders", then good for you.

Also, higher taxes can help reduce the national debt and pave the way for new, innovative programs to produce jobs in America. People don't see the ends. I guess it's a nice world having a gigantic war budget while cutting taxes left and right, isn't it?

I have "examined" his positions, and I stand by what I said that he is a failure for the democrat party. His "positions" change depending on what state he is in and what the polls say.  Off-shore drilling comes to mind.

Higher taxes do not equal new jobs, I really don't know where that comes from.  It's actually the opposite.  Raising taxes on employers and producers will cut jobs, not create them. 

Regardless of that, why anyone thinks that the federal government needs more money to waste is beyond me.

But ID, think about the candidates the democrats had. You had one with over a 50% negative (virtually impossible to elect without a strong 3rd party candidate), another who cheated on his cancer ridden wife, and then a third one that is and was unknown. Who would you pick?

Believe it or not, I think Obama is the most electable of the 3. That is a far cry from saying that he will be elected.

Yea, Obama, at least honestly, has to dance very carefully around the experience question. Of course seeing some of the faux "experience" that the bots are trotting out, he can be dishonest about it and lie through his teeth. I give him at least honesty so far (for the most part) in that he is not totally mesmerized by his own speeches.

Well, I see Barack (formally known as Jesus) still has people seeing him as some higher power as they believe he can do wonders for this nation. Last i checked God is the one with the abilities to do wonders. Barack can only make patch jobs, that is if he can actually stick to one position. The truth that people need to understand is that the President of this nation has no real power as some think he does. Regardless how much they may act as if they do, in the end the President is suppose to act based on the people's idea of what should be done to help this nation, the same goes for Congres and the Senate. People have simply forgotten how much power they truly have, that at any time we can have them removed and replaced, that every 4 years we have the power to keep them another for years, give their successor a chance or change them all together for the alternative.

Barack Obama is no different than any other politician who has run for President before. He simply took advantage of Bush's failure during his administration to pick the perfect catch phrase for his campaign and he got lucky it worked. Sure, we all want change, some more drastic changes than others, but the only change Barack will bring will be a change of party. In the end they are both more of the same, except with a more gallible population this time around.

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there.  Before I get labeled a sexist I have no problem with a female becoming the president of the United States, in fact I look forward to that day, that said Hillary was NOT that candidate.  She had entirely too much baggage with stigmas of dirty politics thanks to her husband, and he did nothing but hold her campaign back every time he spoke.  Also there was the appearance of yet another dynasty setting up, 4 years of a Bush, 8 years of a Clinton, 8 years of a different Bush, then 4-8 years of another Clinton just wasn't palatable to most of America.  Sure she got 18 million votes, and good for her, but the bottom line is that she wasn't going to appeal to the independents at all which would mean that the Republican would walk away with the election.  At least with Obama the race is close.

As for how Obama became the candidate, he had a really good opening.  No one really considered him a front runner until Iowa, he had some following but Hillary was seen as the inevitable candidate.  Then after Iowa Obama started getting the Rock Star treatment where no one really questioned his background, they just jumped on the bandwagon.  He talked a good game with that "change mantra" but he, and no one else, bothered to define what the hell change meant.  Now that the primaries are over some of Obama's past is starting to come and bite him in the ass and people are starting to see him for what he really is, which is nothing.  He can still talk a good game, as long as he can read off a script, which will keep the race rather close, but it remains to be seen if that will be enough.

I couldn't agree more.  When I heard that her name was going to be offered up for nomination at the convention I just started thinking about how hilarious it would be if the delegates ended up picking her as the nominee.  Imagine all the uproar that would be caused by that, it would be hilarious.  Sure it's not going to happen but it would be rather amusing if it did.

It would be all that - and a welcome change from "campaigns" as usual that the presidency has become.
