Pitching his message to Oregon's environmentally-conscious voters, Obama called on the United States to "lead by example" on global warming, and develop new technologies at home which could be exported to developing countries.

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

Obama is an idiot.  So now he will tell us how to set our thermostats and what cars to drive, just to appease other countries?  He is clearly the best choice for anyone who wants a complete nanny state, and who cares what "others" think about you.

He really makes me want to put my A/C on 70, and go out and buy the biggest SUV I can.

you just call the other person stupid. So you claim that pointing out your idiocy is a personal attack. You were the one who claimed that the earth getting colder makes things melt.

Saying someone is an idiot is obviously a personal attack. You also obviously havent done any research on this topic. So, the caps are melting, that doesnt mean that the earth isnt getting colder. You must have also missed the plethora of news stories talking about how the glaciers are reforming. In fact, 2007 featured the greatest ice creation of any year in a long time. Get some actual facts and evidence, then come back and argue your point.

No, it would only be an attack if it wasn't true. In this case it was a statement of fact.

FACT: you are stating that the earth being colder makes ice melt. FACT: That is an idiotic statement therefore you are an idiot.

Actually it is a personal attack, end of story.

And you have provided no facts to back up your allegations about Bush....you sir...are a liar.

So you are claiming facts are attacks.

And you have provided no facts to back up your allegations about Bush

Actually I have, you have claimed that your inability to comprehend them invalidates them.

People he's just here to make trouble, why give him the satisfaction? Don't bother with him, and he'll get bored and go back to the Daily Kos.

His supporters say that he is a different sort of candidate who is all about hope and change... So far all i see is just another hypocritical lefty who refuses to practice what he preaches.

The nerve of that man. How dare he suggest NOT destroying the planet?

LOL, that's funny. I guess Barack's Chrystler 300C does nothing to contribute to that destruction you are decrying. Would it be insulting to call Barack a pot, considering he's black?

But hey, I'm sure mr Political over here does not purchase products that were delivered by trucks. He goes, on bicycle, directly to the manufacture to buy his daily supplies of food, personal hygiene and entertainment. And what, may I ask, does mr Political drive? Chance are it's not a hybrid, electric or even fuel efficient car nor does he go walking or bike riding to the nearest stores. Chances are The_Political is one of the most hypocritical Liberals in this country who claims to care but does nothing himself/herself to actually make a difference, he/she just wants the Govt to do it for him/her. Lazy bastards.

Several countries around the world pollute their waters, their lands and those of other countries yet I see nothing coming from Barack's mouth on this. Just like every other loon in this country, he points to his own people. Of course, it's the car companies fault for building the car, not the people who buy them and never maintain them properly. It's the plastic bag making company's fault, not the people who throw the bags away instead of recycling. Always blame the maker, not the user. Typical.

Well if you think about it, we currently have a Republican in the White House, so voting for Barack would mean having a Democrat in the White house and that is change. We've never had a black man as President before, so that would be change. Barack wants to make friends with terrorist, that would be change. So in reality Barack as President would be change, according to him and his followers. Now, whether that change would be good is the only thing neither Barack or anyone else has been able to show. And hope? If having a man who's spiritual beliefs are to put down this country by constantly saying we are the bad guys, you know "Gad Dam America", "I am proud for the first time", "we need to lead by example",etc, is considered hope? Then by all means vote for the guy. I mean, we are the worst country in the world after all, just ask all those legals and illegals who do what it takes and pay up the ying yang to get here, legally or not. And when ever there's a disaster? Fuck the deficit, right?

The ignorance of all of these posts except The_Politico's is astonishing.

The global warming is not illusion. It is proven, and it is coming to you whether you accept or deny the fact. :/

to beleive that, you have to believe that an increase in global temp by 1C is significant, but a reduction of .75C in one year is meaningless.

Well, I am not going to provide/aruge each specific scientific evidence, but it is already recognized by major international organizations such as U.N if you ask me.

We are already suffering from global warming (New Orleans, for instance.) and all three major candidates in this election made global warming as one of major issues here.

One thing I dislike is that if we really work on something about global warming, ALL of nations need to do same thing. It is not fair to U.S to put regulations itself while China and India make even more pollutions. :/

Gee, another rightwinger arguing that your own inability to comprehend the facts prevents the facts existence. How do you suggest I prove it to someone who has argued that they refuse to believe it regardless of the information provided?

TP,

One, I'm not a rightwinger. While I lean conservative, I have my own mind to use, thank you very flipping much.

Two, I have never (read NEVER, spelled N-E-V-E-R) stated that I refuse to believe it. I asked you for a legitimate source and told you FLAT OUT that I would do everything I could to keep the story alive IF you provided your hairball assertions. But apparently not only am I in on the vast rightwing conspiracy to bury the story, but so is every major search engine on the Internet, because THEY'RE not providing me with credible support, either. In other words, you're a bald faced liar who believes that ad hominem attacks amount to "proof".

Three, I have no difficulties with reading comprehension. If you have provided this proof, I have never seen it, nor, apparently, has anyone else.

I actually had hopes for having some good discussions with you, but apparently your intellectual ability is limited to personal attacks and name calling. Pity, because if your political position was actually borne out of SUBSTANCE, I think I would have enjoyed the banter.

The fact that global temperatures saw an increase over a certain period of time was proven, yes. You are right on that point.

The theory that the temperature increase was not cyclical, and more to the point, was man made, was not proven, and would seem to be undermined by events such as the warming on other planets in the solar system over the same time which cannot be attributed to human habitation.

How do you consider random name calling intelligence? Sorry, I don't get the connection. TP has offered little constructive to the conversation, and has, in fact, refused to support his own ridiculous assertions.

I am willing to bet that, SUV aside, my family and I leave less of an environmental impact than you do. I believe in taking care of the environment because it's good sense, not because of chicken little extremism that is highly questionable in its nature.

Wow, you taught me something I didn't know. So hurricanes didn't exist before the last century? Interesting.

Come on, honestly, you can do better than that.
