WASHINGTON - Americans' incomes rose by 0.5 percent in March, the best showing in three months, and they used the extra money to boost consumer spending by 0.6 percent, the government reported Friday. ADVERTISEMENT The Commerce Department said that the March income gain followed a 0.4 percent rise in February and was the best since a 3.7 percent surge in December, a month when the income figure soared because of a special dividend payment made by computer software giant Microsoft. ...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States should remove visa limits to allow more skilled foreign citizens to work at U.S. companies if it wants to remain a leader in technology, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Chairman Bill Gates said on Wednesday. Microsoft is having a hard time finding skilled workers within the United States, and the lack of H-1B visas for skilled workers is only making the situation worse, Gates said in a panel discussion at the Library of Congres...

The socialist reminds me of somebody on this site. With April 15 having just passed, the scars are still fresh. I hope you're not one who rejoiced over your tax refund as if the feds were presenting you with some kind of gift. Generally, if you're getting a refund check it's only because excessive taxes were withheld from your paychecks all year. What you'll be getting back is your own money, the return of principal on the interest-free loan you were kind enough to extend to the U.S. Tre...

I wonder how many more of the "statistics" liberals use are wrong. WASHINGTON — The number of Americans without health insurance — one of the most watched and worrisome indicators of economic well-being — may be overstated by as much as 20%, according to research conducted for the government. That could mean 9 million fewer uninsured, reducing the total to 36 million from the 45 million reported for 2003, the latest year for which data are available. Link

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Microsoft Corp.'s plan to hardwire computer security into a silicon chip rather than relying on software alone will make its debut in the next release of the Windows PC operating system that will ship late next year. The technology, to be described by Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates during a speech in Seattle on Monday, will protect the startup of PCs equipped with a security chip and ensure that sensitive files aren't accessible when someone tries to boot the computer ...

This is impossible. The col tells me the economy is in terrible shape. WASHINGTON (AFP) - US existing home sales climbed 1.0 percent in March to their third highest pace on record, the National Association of Realtors reported, in a sign of a still-hot housing sector. Home sales grew to an annualized pace of 6.89 million units, better than the 6.8 million expected by Wall Street analysts. "With mortgage interest rates remaining historically low, gains in the labor market and eco...

Where is the media "outrage" and coverage of this? Oh I forgot, it's different when a democrat is involved. Two U.S. House Republicans Thursday called for Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to prove that a lobbying firm that represents Puerto Rico commonwealthers did not pay for a trip to Vieques, PR in 2001. The issue is significant because the future of Representative Tom DeLay (R-TX) as House Majority Leader is being widely questioned due to claims that a lobbyist had paid for so...

This is what the liberal media over there is reduced to? The BBC was last night plunged into a damaging general election row after it admitted equipping three hecklers with microphones and sending them into a campaign meeting addressed by Michael Howard, the Conservative leader. Link

Interesting. [qoute]NEW YORK (Reuters) - Factory activity in the Mid-Atlantic United States expanded much more rapidly this month, a regional central bank said on Thursday in a report that countered growing fears of a slowdown in economic growth. The Philadelphia Federal Reserve said its business activity index jumped to 25.3 in April from 11.4 in March, confounding Wall Street forecasts of a dip to 10.0. A measure above zero denotes growth in the sector. "It's a pretty solid performa...

Kofi should resign. UNITED NATIONS _ - Two senior investigators with the committee probing corruption in the U.N. oil-for-food program have resigned in protest, saying they believe a report that cleared Kofi Annan of meddling in the $64 billion operation was too soft on the secretary-general, a panel member confirmed Wednesday. The investigators felt the Independent Inquiry Committee, led by former U.S. Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker, played down findings critical of Annan when...

Where is the "outrage" about this. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas: Wife and daughter paid more than $500,000 since 2001 for working for DeLay's campaign and political action committees. Connecticut Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman: Son Matthew received about $34,000 and daughter Rebecca about $36,000 for working on the senator's 2004 presidential campaign. Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash.: Nephew Todd Reichert was paid $3,000 last year, plus several hundred dollars for mileage, f...

Another sign the democratic party is on it's way out. TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Democratic Party has started 2005 with its worst fund-raising quarter in recent history, raising about $270,000 in the first three months of this year, compared with nearly $3 million by the Republican Party of Florida. FDP chairman Scott Maddox was unavailable for comment Wednesday because of a family emergency. Party spokesman Allie Merzer said the downturn was expected after a campaign season in whic...
