Stardock announced today that it is expanding its current games division and will open a second games studio in Michigan. The new studio will create up to 50 much-needed jobs in the state of Michigan and will be responsible for an as-of-yet unannounced RPG title developed and published by independent developer Stardock Entertainment. When evaluating where to open the second studio, Stardock considered several other states in which to open it due to the relatively high costs of recrui...

With the release coming up very soon, Steve Butts over at IGN put in some time with the Sins of a Solar Empire expansion, Entrenchment, and gives a great in-depth preview. “Next week Ironclad will be releasing the first ever micro-expansion for our 2008 Game of the Year, Sins of a Solar Empire. Titled Entrenchment, the new addition to the Sins franchise brings a host of defense-oriented improvements that should help players beat back the dreaded pirate surge and also put a stop to aggr...

Gamasutra is one of my favorite gaming sites, and their opinion pieces are definitely worth a read.  I just got this one in my inbox and I wanted to share it with everyone. “Amidst the neverending talk about how the PC is changing or declining as a market for hardcore games, outside of perennial chart-crusher World of Warcraft, commentators seem to lose sight of the historic strengths of the platform and its place in the gaming world. Meanwhile, studios like Valv...

The Tropico series is one of my all-time favorite games. I just had an incredibly fun time playing it throughout the years, so I was very excited to hear that Tropico 3 is on its way! Here is the teaser trailer. Tropico 3 website .

I was just reading this great feature on Gamesutra.com, and thought you might enjoy it as well. And neither does Brad Wardell at Stardock who ships -- and will continue to ship -- his retail DVDs to stores without DRM. The only validation required of customers is when they go online to update the game they purchased. However, Stardock has developed a relaxed version of DRM, called Goo (no relation to  World of Goo ), that it licenses to interested parties. The first company to m...

GameBizBlog has an interview with Brad Wardell.  This interview covers a variety of topics, but the main focus is game piracy.  A definite read. Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock: We know that piracy exists in massive levels. We don't put any copy protection on our retail CDs. We do know, because our games connect to our servers, how many people are playing the pirated version. It's huge. I mean HUGE. Demigod may be the most popular game in a very long time based on the ...

Gamasutra has posted an interview with Brad Wardell about Impulse: Phase 3 and what it means to the PC gaming market. "We're lowering the risk of purchasing a game," he said. "Right now, if I pay $50 for a PC game and play it for a few weeks, I'm out $50. As a result of that, people don't tend to buy as many PC games, because they have to be really, really sure they're going to like it. On a console, you don't have nearly that issue because you can trade games back and ...

As we have mentioned several times over the past week, the Game Developers Conference is in full force this week, and yesterday Stardock’s Brad Wardell gave a speech which Shacknews reported on today. "These games were once mainstream games," said Brad Wardell, CEO of Sins of a Solar Empire publisher Stardock, speaking of them fondly as he cycled through screenshots. "How long has it been since you've seen an adventure game at retail? Exactly." But the sub...

In the games section of USA Today, they have a “gamers profile” of Morgan Webb, co-host of G4TV’s X-Play, and various other TV appearances.  Going through her list of current favorite games to play, I see one in particular that is very familiar, Sins of a Solar Empire! “I really enjoy Resistance (1 and 2) and the Ratchet and Clank series, Gears of War, and Halo is always a good time. I also enjoy real-time strategy games like Supreme Commander and Sins of a Solar Empire. I al...

The gang over at AmpedGaming.com have published their review of Sins of a Solar Empire. “Arguably my favourite aspect of Sins is that it brings back an aspect of RTS games that have been quite absent in many games recently.  This is the diplomacy menu and the trade and commerce menu.  Any Hardcore RTS boasts the ability for you to not only conquer with military power but to run your enemies out of business with smooth economics skills or to get others to destroy them for you ...
