And liberals are disappointed.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqis voted in a historic parliamentary election Thursday, with strong turnout reported in Sunni Arab areas and even a shortage of ballots in some precincts. Several explosions rocked Baghdad throughout the day, but the level of violence was low. The Iraqi election commission extended voting in the country by an hour because of the high turnout.

The heavy participation by the Sunnis, who had shunned balloting last January, bolstered U.S. hopes of calming the insurgency enough to begin withdrawing its troops next year.

Yeah, I had heard that the Sunnis voted (and lots of them voted). That is a big step forward, I think.

I'm glad they are exercising their new rights! Elections are still the only "polls" worth taking seriously. Freedom is taking hold, I hope we don't blow it for Iraq and surrender to the bacteria like some demand of us. ((Apparently those who get to enjoy the new freedoms aren't the ones calling for us to quit... it's pathetic that some who take their freedom for granted resent freedom for Iraqis.)))

Pretty much what Bush said the exit strategy was. Winning.

I can understand why some Iraqis want us to leave ASAP and I can't blame them for it. I, too, would be in fear if everytime a US soldier or vehicle passed by me or my house there is a chance that they will be attacked and chances are I will get hurt in the process. The idea that if we leave chances are the terrorist will leave as well is a better option than keeping them around. But we all know that's not gonna happen and so the reason for us not exiting just yet. All they need is a little bit of patience and the will to fight for a better life and this kind of news is proof that they are on their way to growing that will to fight for themselves for their freedom.

Absolutley and welcomed!

That's gratifying but Sunnis are in the main the ones who want US troops out now.

You might want to check out what Bush said as well.  When the IRAQI People (not just one faction) want us gone, we are.
