NOVELTY pig calendars and toys have been banned from a council office — in case they offend Muslim staff.

Workers in the benefits department at Dudley Council, West Midlands, were told to remove or cover up all pig-related items, including toys, porcelain figures, calendars and even a tissue box featuring Winnie the Pooh and Piglet.

Bosses acted after a Muslim complained about pig-shaped stress relievers delivered to the council in the run-up to the Islamic festival of Ramadan.

Muslims are barred from eating pork in the Koran and consider pigs unclean.

Councillor Mahbubur Rahman, a practising Muslim, backed the ban. He said: "It’s a tolerance of people’s beliefs."

"It’s a tolerance of people’s beliefs."

No, it's forcing the beliefs and practices of one group on everyone else. It's the OPPOSITE of tolerance.

I know I will make people angry by saying this, but there isn't a prayer. Others may differ, but I KNOW what the French and the Germans and others in Europe do when they start feeling oppressed by people of "different origins".

Laugh it off as yesteryear, but I believe devoutly the people living there today are no different. They have that angst pointed at us now for the most part, but if you don't think Europe could swallow their conceince and start packing people onto boats and driving them out of their neighborhoods, then I really don't think you've looked hard enough at them.

I think if you look at the "anti-ethnic" activists, the anti-immigrant organizations and political xenophobes in many of these countries, you'd be aghast. Were they in the US they'd be branded Nazis or akin to the KKK.

The story sounds silly, but hold on a minute, did anyone check the source? (I know that that's the subject of a thread by Tex right now). Click on that link. This story is brought to you by The Sun "newspaper". For those who fondly imagine that the British press is only made up of august broadsheets thundering 'truth to power', a little background may be required.

The Sun newspaper is 'edutainment' for those that the British education system has failed. It is written by cynical and highly educated middle-class 'journalists' for those 'left behind' in their schooling. It requires a reading age of eight. It is sometimes very amusing [Favourite Sun headline, announcing the opening up of part of Buckingham Palace to the public: "NOT IN HERE. I'M ON THE THRONE"], but it's hardly cutting edge quality journalism.

More importantly this thread has given me a valuable insight in to the American conservative mind. Let's see, America is involved in a War on Terror against islamist terrorists; let's quickly conflate that with Islam itself; the yellow Europeans didn't back us in Iraq (and they have socialised medicine too, the bastards), and, hey! there are muslims in Europe too - lot's of them!; and we all know that the Europeans are all a bunch of anti-semites and nazis under the skin, even though we've never been there... Yawn.

Just look in the mirror, because this is the mirror image of the lazy, uninformed, cliche ridden anti-Americanism that your opposite numbers in Europe have (many of whom have never been to the USA either).

So how did we get from a ban on porcine stress relievers to the Friday Call To Prayer echoing from Trafalgar Square? People, come on!
