With iPod-savvy Windows users clearly in its sights, Apple is expected to announce a bare bones, G4-based iMac without a display at Macworld Expo on January 11 that will retail for $499, highly reliable sources have confirmed to Think Secret.

What does everybody think about this?

Sounds interesting. For a second computer it sounds promising, although you'd have to buy a monitor, which can be quite expensive. I don't know how many people would buy this as a primary unit; it just doesn't match the speed of all the new systems out there. Granted it is much cheaper.

If it is as thin as they say it will be, it will defiantly look cool!

Well. Apple finally did something smart, it appears... I never liked the mac's idea of computer/monitor unit.

Only thing left is OS itself, something I haven't liked since old black and white 10'' screen days. *cough*cough* Well apple still did something smart is pretty much matched the PC prices.

Can you use your pc monitor and just put it on a video switch?

Heh, I never liked the idea of having to buy everything separately. That's why I went Mac instead of PC back in the 80's.

Probably. I've always used a PC monitor with my (non-built-in monitor) Macs.

Heh, I never liked the idea of having to buy everything separately.

Last Mac I had, the screen died while the computer itself was still perfectly good. The cost of repairing it was ridiculous compared to the price of a new PC. That's when I switched to PC and swore to never buy another all-in-one machine.

Of course, since then, technology has changed and the lifetime of a screen far outlasts the worthy life of a CPU. I've had the same monitor for the last 3 computers I've owned. So I guess things have reversed. But the point remains (even though it's the other way around). Why buy something with a part built-in that you already have and that is working perfectly?
