They don't know how to play the game but that is to be expected, though they didn't seem to appreciate that themselves ha. If they were to be believed it did seem they faced the Drone drop a lot; I forget what the cool down is for the ability. I mean the AI would have covered the whole map by then and would likely have kept building quanta so it is possible, both AI were Substrate after all. Because the players knowledge of the game mechanics were so bad it was a little hard to judge what they said, especially as we only had the one player's view.
