Stardock and Mohawk Games are thrilled to pull back the curtain on Offworld Trading Company, the economic RTS from Civilization IV designer Soren Johnson. The Earth is fading and the asteroids controlled by a corrupt monopoly, leaving Mars as the last frontier for the human spirit to rise up and make something of itself. Do you have what it takes to carve humanity a new home – and turn a profit doing so?

  • Rekindle humanity’s adventurous spirit by leaving the tired Earth to find new fortunes in the untapped resources of Mars

  • Manipulate the market, employ corporate espionage, and patent technologies to drive your opponents out of business

  • No military – the real-time, player-driven market is your sword and your shield

  • Thirteen different resources and a market economy make no two paths to victory alike – no one resource is the “key” to Martian dominance

  • Dynamic single-player campaign responds to your actions and choices to determine the fate of the Martian colonization effort

  • Market-driven gameplay emphasizes mental savvy over manual dexterity, and naturally supports exceptional free-for-all matches

Cautiously optimistic.

It sounds interesting, but I think I'll wait for the reviews.

I believe the embargo is lifted now? (if not let me know, and I'll fix this post).

Anyway, I haven't played this for a while now.  I hopped on very early in the alpha/beta though the "more expensive" tier pre-order option.  Played it quite a bit for the better part of a week or two immediately when it was released to the people who had opted to do the alpha/beta test - which was maybe last summer or thereabouts...  It's pretty cool and definitely worth trying out.  It's an fun/neat concept and even though it was very much a work in progress when I played it, it was really fun.  The biggest surprise to me was that it's a short-game format, whereas I was assuming that it would be a much longer RTS/TBS type of setup.  I think that this was the main reason that I gravitated back toward some other games - also I try not to play too much stuff in beta, as I tend to get game burn-out when I play stuff still being developed.  Basically I was thinking that it would be Railroad Tycoon 2 on Mars.  And it is.... except that the games are just 20 mins long instead of 3 hours.

Looking forward to picking it up again and giving it another go.  The screenshots are of a game waaay more polished than the one I played.

Glad to see it finally be released.

cheers,

It sounds boring. Instead of moving stealthed Stormtroopers into position and throwing grenades or surprising a tank (multimelta) or driving a tank straight through the enemy frontlines, you sell iron and food....

I watched the video and it sounds better with pirates, EMP attacks and such but I wouldn't bet on it becoming the next E-Sport
