Well half the year is done, and if you didn't notice over the weekend, June is finally here.  That got me to thinking what’s been going on so far this year on WinCustomize, and what we can try to accomplish in the remaining part of the year.

Back around March, we had a very successful community project done called Metall Tech.  After a rough start while trying to pin down the main skin, it all worked out and the authors here stepped up as usual and finished a beautiful suite of skins.  You can see the full list of them and more on the project here.

I wouldn’t mind getting another community skin going sometime in the next few months, so I’d really like to hear your thoughts on that and suggestions on what the skin might be based on.  Speaking of projects, DrJBHL had a great idea for another community project and even came up with a cool mockup. This isn’t so much a skinning project, although we could turn it into maybe the next type of community wallpaper.

Here’s a mockup.

Composite Map 2

Basically, it’s a map where people can submit their pictures or logos along with where they live in the world and it the image can be placed over where they live.   Again, let us know what you think about something like this.

Finally, I’d like to have some type of summer contest in the next few weeks.  Not sure of any details as of yet, but it’s always fun and gets people involved, so that’s always worth the effort put into it.

Didn't mean to exclude anyone - just put a few of the 'usual suspects' in as a 'f'rinstance'. Icons/signatures could be used in lieu of pictures (except in Hanker's case ) if anyone has privacy concerns (did Fuzzy that way as an example).

This is a cool idea however. Where would the pictures be submitted? On a thread specifically for this? There most likely are several people in the same area. I can see a problem trying to place several pictures over a smaller State. May be able to do it but some of the pictures may be so small you can't even tell what a person looks like.

Than there is the last thing. I may be so old I can't see the forest through the trees and may be missing the whole thought process of this.

The idea is that pictures/logos for each state are assembled per state and then assembled...for those who don't know how to use clipping masks.

You would say get NJ or PA state map and assemble it with a clipping mask. For those without the ability/software? I can do it for them. I also think a dropbox with the US map (large sized can be used for those wanting 'DIY' or help from a friend...that's the Community part of it too...there'll be 'compositors' and 'assemblers' who can teach Ps techniques to the others while working together to create the map...

With respect to a 'small' state? The map I was using was a 4Kx3K res...so 'small' is relative. Also, if no one is in an adjacent state, the state pic can be 'enlarged' and overlap the empty state.

That is, if the Community even likes the idea.

..personally, I think everyone that visits here is suspect!

So, a world map... how exactly do you put millions of members names and faces on it?  Kind of crowded, yes?

Think about it, Barb. How many participate in the Community Wall projects?

Besides. It was only an idea. What killed it for me was WI.

If others have different ideas, that's cool.

Right, makes sense then!!  What's wrong with Wisconsin?

I'm intrigued. Just wondering though, what if you get so many from one state that there's no room?

One of you will fill the whole State up.

We move 'em to the sheep pen...

Seriously: Instead of coming up with problems before they even exist, and negativism...find ways of doing it...or something else.

Indeed. There's only one member from TN as far as I know, DaveBax.

How's about a 'simple' Google earth pin type system? Like this:

Just with current WinC forum avatars instead of the pins.

I thought this was done once several years ago or is my imagination running wild again?

How about something like this and it is also ZOOM-ABLE

Instead of coming up with problems

It was a simple, and very pertinent question. Not negativism. Just a question...jeez.

No, Jim. It's something I see on almost every thread...and you're not the only one who does it.

You couldn't be bothered to even read the (numerous) 13 comments before you before you jumped up with the same thing. At least DT1 went to the trouble of trying to solve a question he read in 2 comments (and which was answered).

1. DaveBax, reply 3: "I can see a problem trying to place several pictures over a smaller State. May be able to do it but some of the pictures may be so small you can't even tell what a person looks like."

2. teddybearcholla resply 5: "how exactly do you put millions of members names and faces on it?  Kind of crowded, yes?"

3. RedneckDude reply 8: "I'm intrigued. Just wondering though, what if you get so many from one state that there's no room?"

Without trying whatever the subject is, people here have to automatically start poking holes in it instead of trying to help propose a solution to something they actually try. That's defined as negativism.

If you try, and fail, then at least it's experience based. Not here, though.

TRY, then ask a "question". Or at least have the courtesy to read the replies before your anxiety to be the one who shoots an idea down overcomes you.

Here's the original mock up:

Putting Shelby_GT_TheCar in TX wouldn't be a big problem. Getting a higher res map wouldn't be a problem...stop dreaming up "why it can't work" and "make it work".

4. RedneckDude reply 14 "It was a simple, and very pertinent question."

Bullshit. It was a repetition of a question above it. It was negativism. You couldn't even be bothered to read the comments above your brilliance.

To quote you? "Jeez."

How about you come up with an idea and an actual mock up? That would be positive.

4. Philly0381 reply 12: "I thought this was done once several years ago or is my imagination running wild again?"

Why not take the trouble to actually look up the answer to your own question before hastening to ask it?

Just look at the number of actual comments. How many of them are positive about anything? To hell with this.
