Last week the purchase of Nokia’s Device and Services Division by Microsoft was complete.  Along with changing of the signs on the Nokia building, Microsoft also got around 25,000 new employees from the deal.

“The opportunity for Microsoft to be both a devices and services company, so that it can deliver the complete proposition to its consumers, is at the heart of this,” Stephen Elop, former Nokia CEO and now executive vice president of the Devices Group at Microsoft, said recently.

The work between the two companies has resulted in many successful devices, including the Lumia line of smartphones, a family of beautiful and easy-to-use devices that has won praise across the industry and from reviewers.”

I actually think this is a good move by Microsoft, and even though this deal was made during Ballmer’s reign, I think Nadella came in at the perfect time to really make the most out of this.  It remains to be seen how exactly Microsoft will move forward with this new addition, but with Windows Phone gaining traction among markets, they have a good chance to continue narrowing the gap with other mobile OS systems.

Yeah, I think the mobile market is going to get a major shakeup from this marriage of Microsoft and Nokia.  There is the likelihood of great Surface phones and that there'll be other tablet versions which will compete so much better with Apple and Android devices.  I never saw the attraction in those, so I am quite excited about the future of Windows mobile devices given this rather smart and logical business development.
