A new Windows Phone device from Nokia was announced today.  The latest being the Lumia Icon with a 5-inch 1080p HD screen, 20mp camera, quad-core processor, and much more.  The only downside is this is exclusive to Verizon.

Windows Phone Central has a detailed review up already, and you can read that here.

It looks nice a great device, but being exclusive to Verizon leaves me out, so maybe it’s time to grab that Lumia 1520 instead.

Don't you just hate that, when a nice looking device is exclusive to only one carrier.  It doesn't happen too often here in Australia, but when the Lumia range first went on sale here, only a couple had the 920 and their prices were not the best.  That's why we settled for the 820, which for us turned out to be the better buy at the time because of the ability to change SIMs and add extra storage up to 64gb.

The other annoying this is when some carriers have some phones exclusively as contract only, and others as prepaid only.  For example, my carrier has the Lumia 620 as contract only and the 520 as prepaid only, which for me is a bit of a nuisance because I'd prefer it the other way around.  Oh well, them's the breaks.

The thing is, while I really like my Lumia 820, my provider has no apps under the W8 phone platform and  I cannot use it to manage aspects of my landline, Foxtel and internet accounts, whereas if I had a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, for example, I could remotely access my services using the free Telstra app from the Google store... and as several family members have and love them, I may yet consider one as a 2nd phone to give me access to those features, like when I'm at the doctors or hospital and bored silly waiting, etc.  If only my provider would remedy that situation, to eliminate the want/need of a second phone.
