If you follow tech news you probably have seen the 60 Minutes interview with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.  He revealed that Amazon has been working on package delivery by drones and hope to have it operational in the next few years.

The goal is to have items delivered within 30 minutes, but obviously there are a lot of obstacles (no pun intended) to get this going in the real world.  I’m a bit mixed on this technology, and I personally don’t see it taking off (again, no pun intended) anytime soon.

What do you think?  Is this something you’d like to see?

I don't see this ever happening, but then I thought the pencil and paper would never be replaced as the primary means of writing correspondence to a person in another location.

Yeah, stupidest thing I ever heard of.

USPS has come up with their drone shipment device ....

ooops... "Drone vs. Drone" - eBay drone nails Amazon drone.

Looks interesting, maybe the future is sooner than I thought?

Out west they issue official drone hunting licenses.

"There's one..."

"Where?"

"Over there"

I see a lot of these things and I can help but think about Maximum Overdrive...

I'd be excited to see this happen, but there are quite a few limitations at the moment. First the FAA has to change some rules for these things to be usable in the first place. Also, not sure it will be a cheaper way of transporting goods to homes.

Nice. Why bother to go out and steal things when you can just hack-a-drone(or shoot one down) and have it dropped off at your door.   Beats the hell out of hijacking trucks!

Jeff Bezos  BTW, there is no "e" in Bozo

So you're telling me for a few extra bucks they'll include a drone in my delivery? I don't really need one but I think that's one of those things you kind of just want to have anyway, like an iPad. #machineuprising #Isurrender

I love the idea; however, I don't see them overcoming all the issues to successfully implement this shipping method countrywide.

More cheap labor for Amazon,

How will the drone deliver to someone living in an apartment building or on the hundreth something floor of a high-rise.

on Dec 03, 2013

Drone + smart bomb = deliveries go through the roof.

But seriously ... it might be nice for an express-packet like a contract or an important letter.

But seriously ... I think lots of naughty children would place fake orders, wait for it to land at their door, then grab it and then use it for whatever purpose they can think of. Like smashing it against the wall. Or throwing it into a pond. Or just jump on it. Or put a fire cracker in it. Or try to hit it with fireworks. I can think of all kinds of funny stuff you can do with it.

^ Yeah...especially when it takes a picture of you...and you get charged with theft, etc.

More interesting? If one drops out of the sky on the windshield of an 18 wheeler or gasoline tanker. Maybe when it gets sucked into a jet or helicopter engine and the plane/copter falls on a hospital.

Worst case? Screws up ID's delivery. Hell to pay.

Well to be fair, I'd probably be one of the ones using it as a target.
