There's another thread here with some discussion about the sale, but I wanted to make a separate thread on what games you have picked, or ones you are hoping hits a good sale.

I like the Steam Wallet, because I drop $10 here and there and build it up for sales without putting a big dent in my wallet.

Picked up so far:

  • Borderlands 2 Season Pass - $10
  • Cart Life - $2 (random gifting)

Waiting for:

  • Assassin's Creed III
  • Tomb Raider

Picked up on Amazon, GamersGate, GMG, etc:

  • Euro Truck Simulator 2 - $10
  • BioShock Infinite - $24
  • Civ 5 Brave New World - $24

Be sure to add me on Steam: Island Dog

Thank you for your very thorough answer.

I have to admit I am wary of RTS games (I fear the twitch factor associated games like Starcraft...I'd rather play at my own pace). DW being a slower paced game speaks favorably to me...but the game and it's expansions are a little too steep for me to experiment .

What is your opinion of Endless Space, if you don't mind me asking? I understand it is like MoO2 but without personality/a soul.

I don't care for twitch RTS games much, either... and Distant Worlds is definitely not twitch. As far as Endless Space goes, I really love what Amplitude has done. Endless Space is a very streamlined 4x TBS experience that is a very worthy entry into the space 4x pantheon. However, it gets criticized for a very pretty but lackluster battle system (battles are played out in phases with cards that you play, no tactical control) and that "spreadsheet" feeling.

They've added lots of personality to the game since its release, in random events, galactic wonders, pirates, exploration events, story arc choices, etc. People who says Endless Space has no personality probably only played the beta or day 1 release and haven't touched it since. Unfortunately, they just released an expansion, Disharmony, that adds depth to the combat system but has broken a few mechanics and introduced some questionable design choices that are geared towards the small but vocal multiplayer community but disturb the single player aspect. Time will tell if they'll be able to patch the expansion up well (in the meantime, original "classic" ES mode is still available). I'd say buy ES if you enjoy the exploring, expanding, exploiting phases of 4x games. If you're in it for the extermination part, you'll probably end up disappointed.

As far as providing some topic relevant material, I have so far purchased in the Steam Sale:

- LA Noire
- Universe Sandbox
- Deadlight

Mainly because they were %80 off.. one of these days I'll get around to playing them behind my backlog of other games.

Honestly this sounds like Thrift Shop.

Anyway, I have bought Scribblenauts Unlimited, and I am glad I did so.

Sadly me and my friends are broke, and they don't have genereous wallets/spirits anyway, so no CS:S and Gmod for $13 for me... [e digicons]:'([/e]

I also bought The Walking Dead.

on Jul 16, 2013

Picked up The Last Remnant for 3 bux,

thinking of grabbing The Void for even less..

on Jul 16, 2013

got $20, Gmod, CS:S, Demolition Inc., Dues Ex Human Revolution + all DLC for a friend.

Sold some cards.

I'm hoping Assassin's Creed III comes back with a better sale now.

on Jul 17, 2013

I just got Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes for 66% off.

Thanks a million.

Apparently there is a problem for those who own FE, as the discounts combine for a negative price. A lot of sales are being missed right now, hope you guys are getting this fixed.

It's already been fixed.

  • Torchlight II
  • FTL

I would have gotten more but since I haven't played many of my games it would be stupid to buy more if I'm not gonna play them in two years or so.

Picked up Tropico 4, Civ5 Gold edition (seriously, get this one - Civ5, Civ5: Gods and Kings and all Civ5 released DLC except Brave New world) and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Also Castle Crashers, King Arthur 2: the roleplaying wargame and Bastion. I was really hoping Prison Architect would have a real sale, but 33% reduction doesn't cut it when they're up against AAA titles lowered by 75% or more. Tried Warframe, a F2P title with DLC for sale but I didn't really get it, seemed extremely repetitive.

FTL

Two awesome titles made even more awesome by mods! Especially FTL is the kind of game I wish I could go back and play for the first time again.

I picked up CivV Gold several weeks back during a sale(12.50), and definitely agree with Heavenfall, get it, great deal. G&K and the DLC made the game enjoyable to me, wasn't a fan of the vanilla version. So far during the sale I've only grabbed Torchlight II, but I'll likely snag a couple more before the end. Just noticed something after the final day sale items went up; some of them are still available down below under the Top Sellers list for better discounts, might be worth taking advantage of.

King Arthur 2 Collection is a neat game, bought it back upon release via Gamersgate, and it was a buggy mess, but did enough stuff right that you could overlook or workaround the bugs. There was a bit of an uproar when they decided to release their last patch via Steam only, took months for them to get Steam keys to GG customers, but they finally did. I think there is still an issue with a couple of the quests, but I haven't fired it up in a year or so. Still, it's a fun ride, especially if you are a fan of the story, and is kind of Total War lite, but with magic items and heroes. Archers and magic rule the battlefield, and you get to play with all of the Round Table crew. Good purchase for the price, fans of LH should find it enjoyable.

Edit: Just an FYI, the typical number of LH players online has doubled since the sale, guessing that the move to Steam is working out well.

I bought Torchlight II and Don't Starve. Both great games.

Got most of my sales elsewhere.  Steam seemed a bit lackluster this year.
