Gaming Nexus has their review of Elemental: Fallen Enchantress up and they give it an 8.9!

"In summary, then, “Elemental: Fallen Enchantress” has a lot of moving parts that work well together.  There is a lot of replayability here and the AI can put up a decent fight.  When everything is going right  EFE has that “just one more turn” feeling. "

Probably the best review yet.

"certain techs uncover previously unknown resources"?

Wasn't that left with WoM?

Otherwise I feel it's a very good and informative review. Perhaps the best out there so far.

Agreed, unless they are talking about monster recruiting resources. Even in that case it should say something more along the lines of "allow access to previously unusable resources." They brought up ore, I wonder if they were under the impression you need to get the mining tech to even start the mining process??

But other than that, pretty decent.

Birth of Summer?

Edit: oh, I do not know how to unlock previously unknown deposits of ore, though I can boost an existing supply and I suppose some city enhancements can give me ore without an iron mine.  I am puzzled by that line.

I am also not sure I agree with some of the other points (like: I am not bothered by monsters being "too tough" but I play using the huge map mod because of a perhaps analogous reason).

Decent review, but some point bother me. The earlier mentioned "resource pop-up" that doesn't exist in the game. Monsters too tough when you meet them??? Well, does he mean the monsters should scale with your empire? That would suck. They're SUPPOSED to make expansion harder, not just be easy experience. Kind of weird statement.

And last, but not least, how can you call a game "decent, not great" and then proceed to give it a rating of 8.9??? What does he give good, or great games then? 14.2?

One's impression of monsters could depend on the game. In my first game, there were two stacks of deadly monsters wandering around close to me. I haven't seen any that strong so close since, and I'm on my tenth game.

I definitely liked the Gaming Nexus Review of Fallen Enchantress (Tom Bitterman's review of 12/17/2012, for Gaming Nexus).  A pertinent quote (IMHO) from the beginning follows.  I think it is pertinent because it insightfully addresses the context of current fantasy-gaming, and in the process acknowledges the 900 pound gorilla in the room.

"A specter haunts the face of fantasy strategy gaming -- the specter of "Master of Magic".  Gamers of a certain age remember MoM fondly.  This reviewer was not the only one to spend many a sleepless night with the game.

Perhaps it is remembered too fondly, though.  ...  Now no turn-based strategy with a fantasy setting can avoid being compared to MoM.  ...  One wonders after a while whether potential game designers shy away from the genre for exactly that reason ...

"Elemental: Fallen Enchantress" (EFE) has decided to confront MoM head-on.  A bold move by itself, this is an especially gutsy call given the abject failure of the previous version, "Elemental: War of Magic" (EWoM).  ... "

Exactly so!  It is now 2012, and I consider us fortunate that Stardock decided to stake itself to this effort.

Incidently, the Gaming Nexus review  is  one of the ones that has gone into the official MetaCritic score, based upon their selection of professional reviews.  There are now 12 reviews by professional critics comprising this score, which is currently 77, out of 100 possible.  (The user score is currently 7.3, out of 10, based upon a total of 56 users to date.)  For those who like to keep score, follow the link below:
