A small update for Start8 has gone out today.  Ease the transition to Windows 8 with Start8 by bringing the familiarity of the Windows 7-style start menu along with additional enhancements to Microsoft’s new Windows 8 release.

Updated in v1.02:

  • Added typing "C:" in the start menu will launch Explorer to that location.
  • Fixed backspace on empty search box causing the search screen to show blank
  • Fixed non 100% dpi settings causing the start menu to appear too large
  • Fixed Metro apps icons not scaling with higher dpi
  • Fixed occasional corruption of All Programs tree icons on some machines
  • Fixed timing issue sometimes causing explorer to restart if you rapidly clicked the start button

Registered users can download the update from their account page at https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products or via Stardock Central.

A free trial and more information can be found at the Start8 website.

Only because there are no 8s.

Agree - Great App and trying to use Win 8 with some sanity!

small feature request - can a y-position offset be added to where the menu appears? So I can have a couple of pixels gap between my taskbar top and the bottom of the start menu itself. For some reason seeing it directly pixel aligned to the taskbar is wigging me out.

On my Ultrabook, seriously, windows should buy the rights to add this as a damn default 'personalization' feature, many who don't know about stardock products, will soon be flooding the servers here, im rather scared, but excited I'll be submitting themes/ working on an app with a friend who works at Intel right now (unless stardock is already further than we are but I doubt it as we'll be in Beta by next week) for what we'll be calling

Metro LockArt will include a almost S-Pen style (mouse/touch/pad) paint/trace feature and a 'metrolock' style converter for photos stored, also we're trying to add a animation feature (very slight motions) feature but getting it to work on the RT version is being more than we care to develop

however, this app, other than a few minor adjustments to sizing/customizing of start menu/start button/pixel clean ups, it looks as if it were meant to be there GREAT JOB STARDOCK
