Stardock announced today that the award-winning 4X turn-based strategy title Galactic Civilizations I: Ultimate Edition has made its way to Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/214150/) for just $9.99.

In Galactic Civilizations, the year is 2178 and the Terran Alliance has invented a new technology - Hyperdrive. However, the secret has leaked to other civilizations, starting a race for all of the inhabitable worlds in the galaxy. As leader of the United Earth, you must research new technologies, build an economy, and create a powerful military force all while carefully balancing your political, diplomatic and trade skills.

The expansion, The Altarian Prophecy, expands the gameplay of Galactic Civilizations I to include a campaign that will take the player on a multi-game journey to solve the mystery of the eerily similar Altarian Republic. In doing so, two new civilizations - The Dominion of the Korx and the Drath - will be discovered. These two civilizations hold the secret to Altaria's history, but worse still, they know the Prophecy that tells of the destruction of the galaxy that is connected to Altaria's past. Also included with The Altarian Prophecy is a map editor, scenario editor, campaign editor, four new star ships, custom scenarios, and much more.

I'm amazed at how well the game holds up in 2012.

Indeed. Played a little of my friends GC1 in early 2000's, and that is what caught my interest in SD products, but during that time impulse didn't exist, and SDC wasn't easily accessible (plus i was a little computer inept at the time, and didnt know much about it). I looked all over the local PC shops for GC1, but there was nothing there. Until GC2 came out. You guys got me hooked there. Thanks for the re-release. It is nice to play an old classic once in a while
