Take a more in-depth look at Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion with this beta preview video.
This was a nice surprise, really looking forward to the game. Is it going to give me any issues that I own all the other Sins of a Solar Empire Titles on Impulse (Gamestop whatever) I wish I could migrate all my games to Steam and have them together but I don't want to rebuy them again.
Unfortunately it seems if you want them on steam you will probably have to rebuy them on steam. I believe Rebellion is an expandalone so you shouldn't need the others even installed.
I cant beleve there is only ONE i repete ONE gameplay video on youtube on rebellion!!!!!!!
that's really unfair,39 bucks for an expansion and i have to rebuy all the original games!?
i Hope that's not true
really
Explandalone means you can buy and play Rebelloin without needing any of the prior games (expandalone means standalone expansion, so while it doesn't require the old games it's more of an expansion than it is a sequel). You will probably have to rebuy Trinity on steam, BUT only if you want Trinity on steam. If you are fine with Trinity on gamestop / stardock's store / where ever you bought / activated it then there is really no need to buy it on steam again (unless you REALLY want to centralize everything on steam, in which case just wait for Trinity to go on a huge sale)
definetly diplomacy is not an option- just taking revenge for destroyed cap ships!!!!
With the pre-order we get a serial, it is working with Steam. I am downloading right now!
It 'works' with steam but doesn't really have full support since it isn't released yet. IE my achievements aren't on my profile but it is recording them...somewhere.
(woot space ponies, a secondary bonus after finding out there is at least one additional titan in the beta, can't use it though)
No Thrawn you dont, Steam can manual add game files to your steam library, the only diff between them being sold by and steam and not is that if their not you do not get any upgrade support for the software. for example you currently have diplomacy 1.34 ironclad release 1.35 you would be prevented from upgrading it throu steam.
And yes Rebellion is a standalone expansion and contains all the original content + more.
To migrate your games from gamestop to steam follow these steps:-
open steam
Go to your steam library
in the bottem left there is an option to Add a game to steam
click this button and then select add a non-steam game
wait for the program list to finish loading
find the games you wish to add to steam by checking the box/s
click add selected programs
That should add them to your steam library
That just makes it so the game launches with the steam overlay, it DOES NOT add the game to your library! You cannot download the game from steam that way, end of story. If you want Trinity to be be downloadable on steam you must purchase it from steam.
To sum up:
To get trinity to be on your actual steam library, it must be registered via steam (and no old CD keys don't work, you must purchase it on steam). All that adding it to your steam games list does is add the steam overlay to the game and nothing more. Rebellion does not require a copy of trinity to be installed or purchased in any way. This is the way it works.
But that wasn't the original question though. He wanted to know if steam would run them without having to re-buy them which as i said earlier it can. and yes it does only add the overlay to it but it also adds it to the steam library meaning you can launch it through steam. it just prevents you from updating it and having a online copy of your library contents etc
p.s. titans are massive really
edit forgot to link my youtube video oops here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdgLjOILnRs&feature=channel
asadex, you don't have to rebuy all the original games. Rebellion comes with all the content from Trinitiy (original Sins + Entrenchment & Diplomacy expansions).
Maybe Asadex wants all of his games in one place, because that is the only reason I can think of, though Rebellion does come with all of the content from Trinity.
Try to find the beta any idea don,t see the email, got the preorder when it first out
