The latest beta release for Stardock Tiles has been released.  The 0.95 beta has a few big changes from the last beta, along with the usual performance and bug fixes.

New in this beta:

  • Added new Metro-style skin
  • Completely new configuration UI
  • Add new features support to allow offering additional content/features in the future.

Let me also add you will see a new in-app purchase screen which is currently just a test feature we are working on.  To download the beta head over to your account page and grab the update!

It would appear that Tiles is a program or function of it's own now rather than a replacement for the Windows Taskbar when it first came out.  I say this because the time and date and system tray options have been dropped.  Would this be a correct analysis?

EDIT:  It would also appear the option to use the WBs skin on Tiles is gone, why?  If you ask me dropping these three options is not a step in the right direction, especially using the WBs skin.  Just my opinion mind you.

Still no top/bottom positioning.

It appears you have to reactivate Tiles registrations to unlock the skin section and advance options. Go to add features and click "Active Existing Purchases" and all should be visible

The standalone beta install isn't prompting as part of the install for activation yet. As the activation path changed, if you use the standalone beta, you will need to enter your Stardock account information under Add Features / Activate existing purchases.

I'll post this feedback here since I coun't find the official bug report thread. I notice on my Windows 7 64, after selecting "Start Tiles automatically" Tiles sidebar doesnt open at starup, but it opens the config window instead. Anyone else having similar issues?

Thanks, Nakor... made all the difference. Wish there were a way to make that general knowledge beyond your helpful reply.

No...no issues beyond what Nakor's comment fixed. Try doing that... might solve the problem.

I did try thr activation. I have all the features working. but wont start automatically, it only opens the config window still. Ill uninstall and reinstall to seeif that will fix it.

The screens will still open at the same time... reinstall won't change that, I suspect. It's geared to the new user, perhaps (for the final copy)? No telling what all is being tested.

Here is what i found tiles adds to my registry

I have the same issue. If you check the "Start With Windows" button it will ONLY open the Config screen. I unchecked that and added the "Stardock Tiles" shortcut from the Start Menu into my Startup group and all works fine.

AS an alternate you could change that registry to reflect the tiles executable instead of the config executable.

on my system it's "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop\Tiles\tiles.exe"

It seems the problem is the code for setting that was moved from tiles.exe to tilesconfig.exe and it used the current exe path as the value.

This has been resolved internally and I am sure an update will be pushed later.

Thank you for that info. I believe it has helped a lot of people here, myself included.
