Steven Sinofsky has written a post about Windows 8 which we will hopefully see more about at the BUILD conference in September.

Building the next release of Microsoft Windows is an industry-wide effort that Microsoft approaches with a strong sense of responsibility and humility. Windows 8 reimagines Windows for a new generation of computing devices, and will be the very best operating system for hundreds of millions of PCs, new and old, used by well over a billion people globally.

We've been hard at work designing and building Windows 8, and today we want to begin an open dialog with those of you who will be trying out the pre-release version over the coming months. We intend to post regularly throughout the development of Windows 8, and to focus on the engineering of the product. Welcome to “Building Windows 8,” or as we call it, “B8.”

For the Windows team, this blog is an important part of developing Windows 8, as was our blog for Windows 7. Blogging allows us to have a two-way dialog with you about design choices, real-world data and usage, and new opportunities that are part of Windows 8. Together, we will start the unique adventure of bringing a major product to market. We’re genuinely excited to talk about the development of Windows 8 and to engage thoughtfully with the community of passionate end-users, developers, and information professionals.

Great, so they are going to change the industry?

I've heard that before, plenty of times.

Has it happened? Yes! Of course. But not for the better.

Also, the article's overuse of adjectives makes me want to vomit.

I know it's quite early but still wonder what it's going to do to skinning. There is still nothing better then a personal made windowblind.

for DaveBax. I believe it'll be skinnable on two levels: The task bar and tiles... if MS allows that for the tiles in their coding. The VP in charge of B8 said it would have the tile or task bar option.

They really need to anticipate a good deal of flak over the "B8" thing...

BK told me that it will be skin able and deliver
skins downloadable via ms just like the wallpapers they had released for 7

I also wonder if that happens will there be a free tool to make some skins?

While i don’t see it as possible thread for SD products i still wonder why
almost nobody is talking about it.

I think it’s good that they make an open blog and gather some more ideas that
could be implemented before the actual release i hope they improved the support
For solid state drives i know 4 people that had raid 0 on and had a corrupt
drive after a crash.

So I’m really excited to get more info about the upcoming features especially
since they say they had made major changes for almost every kind of user be it
gaming, design, stability and so on.

Also I’m very interested of the limitations to each version but until its final
i wont install it just because i know how bugged some parts can be.

As in 'And Switch' - a la Vista?

I'm very optmist about Windows 8. since the new shell is powered by HTML5 + JavaScript + CSS, I can see more people gettign into the skinning, of course many will have hto learn those programming languages too but I thinkt's part of the progress, back in the day WindowBlinds skins used to have like 50 lines of code and 30 graphics, now we have over a 1.000 lines and more than 400 graphics.

In the end, Windows 8 have 50% of chance to be successful and another 50% of fail, Time (and a beta) will tell.

Revolutionary changes: IE, now you cannot change the windows exit sound either.......

It's still a while before they release Windows 8 so I don't think we are looking at the finished version.  Just saying lots of little things will change.
