The v1.2 patch for Elemental: War of Magic has been released today!  Current customers than find the update via Impulse, and you can go to the following link for the long list of changes.

https://forums.elementalgame.com/408299

Some changes include:

  • Raze city no longer requires a tech and is available right off the bat for all of your cities.
  • Prestige penalty for multiple cities has been broken out in the Other category on the city screen (instead of being a part of the base prestige number).
  • In the city breakdown the amount of buildings is listed (so it will say Study x3 if you have 3 studies in that city).
  • Added a new game option to adjust Movie volume.
  • Removed the city idle dialog, replaced with a report item notification in the event list.
  • Pioneers/sovereigns cannot build/found cities in other people's territory

So is this what we have to look forward to with Gamestop now owning Impulse? Downloading games at a pathetic 350kb/s ?

on May 03, 2011

It downloaded at around 800 for me, which is what I got before.

Hmm, not sure why my download is going so slow. I'm downloading the entire game, not just the 1.2 patch.

Congratulations to Stardock for their perseverence! I have not played in a few months personally. I thought the game needed work but was still very feature rich with great potential. I play on a 4 and a half year old Vista install. And it always played perfectly for me. I now have new parts - quad core, MB, 8 G DDR 3 RAM etc, and can't wait to play again sometime next week after my new system comes alive!

Will this game ever perform with 64 bit Windows 7 in the future?

Very excited nonetheless!!!!

Something terrible has happened to the tooltips since 1.1

Unit cards and such are staying up even when the mouse is no longer hovered over top of the relative unit. Tooltips are failing to be displayed when hovered over the top resource bar, tooltips are failing to be displayed over the build button on improvements (they used to say which techs were needed).

I averaged at 1.1 MBP so not bad for DL speed.

For me, the download took about 5 minutes to prepare, then downloaded an approximate 20MB patch.

on May 03, 2011

That I will say was annoying. It took about 5 minutes as well to calculate but the overall download once started was pretty quick.

Great news!

Thank you guys/gals for your hard work and dedication.

As soon as I get home I'll start this puppy up and kill me some mean ol' meanies...and get me sovereign 5 wives...

Game crashing on launch was being caused by a conflict with graphics tray tools. Radeon users note: To avoid that issue or other graphics glitches, you may have to close AMD Catalyst.

Well gotta say I'm not very enthused. I make a full blooded warrior (max con/str/dex) die to a bandit on turn 4. Make a wizzy (max con/int) die to 2 bears on turn 5 with no prospect of a offensive spell till probably turn 25-30. (both on easy, both seeing the NPC come out of the fog of war one turn then dieing the next turn with no option for retreat)

Now the above probably wouldn't bug me all that much, I would just suck it up and take easy mode for the new ultra hard mode but.....

Within 5-10 minutes of every game I play (happened to me 3 times before I gave up), my game crashes to desktop with a out of memory error or something similar...

I have a core 7 950 processor

Windows 7 64 bit

My geforce gtx 560 graphics card has so much internal memory that it leaves me thinking that if it were possible I could install the game just on my gpu's ram alone and still play it.

The fact that I'm getting booted to desktop because my 12 gigs of ram have been used up just boggles my mind.

This game has been out 6-7 months? This is ridiculous.

You've lost my support Stardock, your game HAD potential. I'm done with the come back every month or so to be a bugtester.

Oh ya I play this game on low settings.... sad I know

My rig is fairly similar, I'm running Win 7 64 bit, core 7, and a gtx 455. I have no issues at all unless I do a lot of alt-tabbing.

After six games, none of which went past 80 turns, here are a few observations about v 1.2

First, Janusk has never appeared.  I played on the top two levels in v 1.1, but starting out without a compadre (Janusk), in this version, makes the game VERY tough.

The AIs seem to be FAR stronger. I had to back down to the hard level, just to survive to turn 50.  The bears, archers, and wolves spawn so often, that I cannot keep pace. My best score in v 1.1 was 148, so I am no newbie.

Nine times, in tactical combat, the game has gone to freeze.  In each case, I am not as strong as the enemy, but I know that I will win using my moving/tactical skills.  Since the game freezes, I can exit only by selecting auto combat, which kills all of my units, and that, effectively, ends the game.

I am not super-smart, but the AI is even less intelligent. So why do I have to go back to an auto-save, in order to win he combat that I could have easily won without cheating, simply because the game went into freeze mode?

For positive vibes...the game loads very quickly...

A few more hours of game time will allow me to add more positive (or negative?) postings.

Again, I am no newbie...I was in the top 20 in GalCiv I, and top 100 in GalCiv II...with no cheating and no membership.....
