A new beta update for Tiles was released bringing it to version 0.85.  Tiles is a new app from Stardock which current Object Desktop subscribers have access to.  It makes managing your running applications and windows much easier than using the Windows taskbar.

Tiles v0.85 update:

  • Ability to rename shortcuts now via right click menu
  • Shortcuts dragged to the bar are copied to a different location so the original shortcut being deleted will not break it
  • Fixes to multitouch support and now supports opening the right click menu using a single finger down + tap of the second finger gesture
  • A fix for some system tray icons appearing as the app icon rather than their icon (CoreTemp, Process explorer etc)
  • Opera is now added to the web page as it should have been originally but failed to work for some people due to a case sensitivity issue
  • Adding special windows installer based shortcuts like ones to Office apps may now show the apps on the page correctly when they are running
  • Dragging drives to the bar from my computer should now give them a label - note for now please only drag a single drive at a time
  • Option to change page by bumping up against the screen edge (disabled by default)
  • Rearranged some menu items
  • Added option to show the clock or time or both on the bottom of the bar
  • Explorer windows dragged to a page will hide when that particular window is open and only that explorer window will show on the page
  • Added tooltips (can be disabled) when you hover over items
  • Fix for some bar flicker and z order issues
  • Adding shortcuts to the web tab should allow windows from those exes to show on that page.
  • Various other fixes including a fix for some shortcuts potentially causing crashes
  • New icon for system tray installation of tileskinzip files.
  • Fix for reports that shutdown can be slowed
  • Horizontal wheel scrolling switches pages
  • Vertical wheel scrolling over the top area where the page titles are also switches pages

You can download this update via Impulse, and it is not too late to join the beta for this app by becoming an Object Desktop subscriber today!

Nice update here ID. When will there be an option to filter programs on the "app" page?

Sweet! And it's purty!!

Thanks for the update

WinXPHomeSP3-

Flickering does seem to be fixed, thanks, that helps a lot.

Opera is indeed now showing on web page, thanks.

Not sure about this one - "Size and Location", checking "Reserve desktop space" and unchecking "Pin to top" - Tiles is pinned on top of any regular (not maximized) windows.

Looking better

Great update, thanks! Especially for the 'cycle pages' option and for the clock/date option!

Neil, I'm really enjoying Tiles, but one thing that would make it perfect would be if programs could be moved up or down on the page so that they could be alphabetical or in groups.

Any chance of that happening in an update?

I'm having trouble with User Account Control popups sometimes not being shown on my system (Windows 7 64-bit) since I installed Tiles. It does not happen all the time so it's a bit tricky to debug but it has happened many times when starting installations etc that the UAC request popup just stays in the background. I have to manually Alt-Tab to it in order to proceed.

I have other applications on my system that may be responsible for this but I thought I'd report it here in case someone else sees the same pattern.

Wondering.... The systray app is not appearing for me. I'd like to use it to help install the .Tileskinzip files which have a somewhat laborious installation otherwaise.

How do I get the systray icon to appear?

*Edit:

Answer... no systray icon for Tiles exists at this point.

For those wishing to open the  .Tileskinzip extension, right click on the saved skin, choose 'open with' and then browse to

C:Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\Tiles\AddTileSkin.exe  and also tick the box that says "Always choose this program to open with",

And you're done.

Thanks for the answer, I.D.
