Today we have released a small update to WindowFX 4 for enhanced users.

What’s in this update:

  • Added friction slider for momentum windows
  • Tweak to how sticky notes are handled with darken inactive windows
  • Tweak to darken inactive windows for report of darken effect not working right
  • Tweak for when an application stops responding it no longer animates in when the OS detects it is not responding
  • Fix for a specific control panel with open animations not painting the window correctly

Current customers can update via Impulse.  If you don’t have WindowFX 4, then you can get more info about it at its website.

Nice update.

A feature I'd like to see is a control key or other option to exclude a window from darkening.  Havign to unload WinFX when I need to see data in one window while workign in another is a pain.

I second that Zubaz. And thank you for the 4.01 update - the sticky notes issue was my biggest issue with the program

Will there be tools made available or some way to create our own animations at some point down the road?

Had this happen a few times now:

Under heavy, lasting, CPU load (were it hovers around 60%+) open windows start to loop through their states. One by one they go back and dim, come to front, take focus and lose it before you can do something. Everything becomes unresponsive but background processes continue normally.

The only way out is hard reset.

Did you update to WFX 4.01 as one of the changes was to make sure it does not animate in ghost windows which appear when an application stops responding.

If they are not animating, but just jumping on top, that sounds like something else is conflicting with WindowFX.  I assume you have the darken inactive windows feature enabled?

No darken i have not enabled, only dimming unfocused. I have check beta on in Impulse, always running latest version. And there was no application stopping responding just an application taking a huge load (imageprocessing)

I was just surfing a bit whilst the imageprocessing was going on, when suddenly my focused window started swapping focus with a (till then) minimized window. They animated, as in they dimmed, the other to the front and vice versa.

Tried to open taskmanager, the 3finger salute responded pretty promptly but after selecting taskmanager i was back in the merrygoround.

Happened twice, so after that i changed the affinity of the imageprocessor to 3 cores and didn't have the issue anymore. Seems like some pointer goes missing in Wfx due to resourcecontention. (or something equally important sounding   )

It would be cool to add an effect that makes the windows open and close like how a old fashioned tube tv turns on and off. Similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-c5XYpiKZM4
