BigDownload has posted their review of Elemental: War of Magic, and have given it a “Must Own” rating!

“Elemental is, as we have said, the best game Stardock has made so far. It really is a wonderful title, and despite some incredibly poor design decisions, it stands out in a tired genre. Post-launch support aims to elevate the game beyond the relatively simple status it is at now, and we welcome it with open arms. It's worth noting that this is the first time we've found ourselves sitting on the fence regarding buying or waiting, but in the end, buying wins out. There's plenty of game there for those that get it now, future updates will make it incredible, and the developer could definitely use the support.”

This is a good review of the game.  It makes notes of the important aspects of Elemental that differ it from other 4x games.  Such as the questing system, and how development of your cities works.

This article also points out the flaws of the game, such as the lack of in-depth that the game currently sits at, and also the issue with bugs.  A pro that they mention is the continued support that Stardock will have for Elemental.

The continued support is why I purchased the game.  I am definately looking forward to seeing the evolution of Elemental from where it stands now.  I am definately in the long run with this game, even in the basic form that the game is in now, I still have lost more hours of sleep than I can count playing the game.  I even set my alarm early so I can play for a few hours before school or work.

That is great news.  I hope this review helps steel the team's resolve.  There is so much potential in Elemental.

I've been having fun with the game.  Fixing those damn squads so they don't disappear when damaged during saving was my biggest gripe.

I just can't wait till version 1.13 so I can actually buy the game and play it for the first time. I am waiting waiting so my first impression is as best as it can be! Eager!!!!

shame not every reviewer looks past the flaws of a game with the way stardocks fixs things..

Count me in the "wish I had waited for version 1.13" crowd. Too frustrating to play a game that has so much going for it but then hits you with one glitch after another. I appreciate the efforts of the Stardock team to make it right...but this one gets put aside for a while until they do. Clearly was released too early...paying customers should not be beta testers!

Thank goodness there are reviewers who review the actual state of a game, rather than wishes and intentions.

Quoting KillzEmAllGod, reply 9shame not every reviewer looks past the flaws of a game with the way stardocks fixs things..

and far too often reviewers fail to consider who made the game and their level of support. look at team fortress 2. the game was solid to begin with and it only shipped with 4 maps and 3 game play modes. 3 years later they have added 4 game play modes and the game has almost 100 maps in the official rotation. now obviously if i got elemental and it was made by someone other than stardock or valve i would probably be demanding my money back because most developers follow the a one year post launch support plan and after that there are no new patches or content. another thing is most reviewers fail to consider user generated content, which is essential to the survival of a game community. the of course the double standards among the journalists that give an unfinished glitchfest like modern warfare 2 rave reviews but they give elemental reviews that modern warfare 2 should have got but didn't. hence i don't pay too much attention to those sites as i often feel that they just don't look at the big picture

"Cloth maps show what looks like an old medieval map with important markings done in 2D"

Huh... I just assumed "cloth map" was a shoutout to the cloth maps used in Pen & Paper roleplaying games.  Doesn't really seem all that medieval to me.

Anyways, nice to see a mostly positive review, for once.
