HookedGamers has posted a quick preview of the forthcoming Elemental: War of Magic.

“If you are still unsure about giving a try to Elemental: War Of Magic, please know that these few facets I have talked about are just the icing on the cake. There are many more ways to have fun with Stardock's hybrid: you can do diplomacy, choose your kingdom from different races, build dynasties, research technologies and in the end, if you are still not happy, you have the option to mod the game to your liking. Overall, Elemental: War of Magic sounds like an interesting new take on the RTS genre, mixed in with RPG features.”

Check out the full preview here.

LOL at describing the game as an RTS.  Though I'd love to see you do one someday.

This preview paints Elemental in a very bad light indeed...

on Jul 23, 2010

Yeah, I thought Elemental was a first person shooter.

Guys, guys, it's obviously a side-scroller arcade game.

"Renewing the RTS genre - again" -

I don't think it does Elemental any real harm.. I think it speaks more about the  the reviewer concepts  of rts/tbs  then it does about elemental. it still highlights some of the gooey goodness that is Elemental:WOM.

Elemental is the spiritual succesor of Pong.

It isn't the first time I see a preview of Elemental saying that it's an RTS in it (and not just once!).

on Jul 23, 2010

What? Elemental isn't a pirate sim? How do I get my money back?

they talk about it being a TBS in the first paragraph of the review

One strategy title on the release calender to attempt to bring something new to the table, is Elemental: War Of Magic. Made by Stardock, of Galactic Civilizations fame, Elemenal: War Of Magic is a Turn-Based strategy game filled with swords, castles, dungeons and creatures of myth.

ahhh...they 'may' have edited their review somewhat after legions of stardock fanboys decended from on high to wreck havoc with their water fountain

(new final paragraph)
If you are still unsure about giving a try to Elemental: War Of Magic, please know that these few facets I have talked about are just the icing on the cake. There are many more ways to have fun with Stardock's hybrid. The game offers a system to conduct diplomacy, allows you to choose your kingdom from different races, build dynasties, research technologies and in the end, if you are still not happy, you have the option to mod the game to your liking. Overall, Elemental: War of Magic sounds like an interesting take on an fairly stale genre.

Quoting arstal, reply 1LOL at describing the game as an RTS.  Though I'd love to see you do one someday.

Sure does.  Here's the website of the developer:

Anyway, the Hooked review was in need of professional editing and a spell checker.  There may have been some good info...maybe... but it was all couched within between-the-lines phrasing that seemed to indicate the reviewer would rather have his ankles crushed than play something from the "RPS gerne".

Amateur article.

In the beginning when he says: "the released demon Kraxis" and stuff, it make it sound like it's a scripted mission like a mission in Majesty. He should say that it's randomly generated maps like MoM or random maps from Age of Wonders.

Definitely an amateur article.  Yuck.  They don't seem to know what they're talking about.  And what do they mean 'stale genre'?  With Elemental and Civ V coming out, it's hardly stale.
