I know this has posted a few times before, but since we have so many new users to the site and game, I wanted to post about it again.  Destiny’s Embers is a book written in partnership with Random House by Stardock CEO Brad Wardell.  Destiny’s Ember is a book written about the world of Elemental which revolves around the Kingdom and the Empire trying to regain the mastery of the world.

The book will be available on August 24th, and can be found at several retailers including Amazon.com.

Any news about possible "Fanboy Pack" with Limited Edition + Destiny's Embers?

on Jul 08, 2010

I'm really looking forward to it's release.  I love that cover, too.  Simple and elegant.

I'm going to own this book.  I'm going to own this book hard.

We're talking to them about it.

I can say that Random House is helping produce an in-game campaign for those who have the book. Basically, it's an RPG-ish mini-campaign that follows events from the book.

I'm in for two copies, one digital to read, and one for my "cool stuff" shelf.

Wait, is it only going to be available to those who have the book (? not sure how that would get tracked), or just follows the events so those who don't have the book would be a bit confused?

Woohoo!  Kindle edition preordered!

I'm curious about the book. Certainly a pack with the limited edition + book would be interesting.

It's an additional campaign that the book buyers get.

Oooh, something to sweeten the deal.. Tricksy, tricksy!

How is that tracked?  Does an e-book version get me the campaign?  What options do I have for getting the book in digital format?

Probably the ebook/book comes with a code that will allow you to download the quest. Just like a DLC.

But I'm just guessing.

Hey I'm game for the "Special campaign for book buyers." Reason is I really hope this works out for Random House. As a whole the game industry could use better writing. There are some notable exceptions like Bioware, but usually the writing is not that good. So, if a book publisher starts to see benefits to working with game devs, maybe we get some better written games out of it.

In terms of the book itself, who knows? Brad is an unproven author at this point so it could be great, could be crap, or could be anything in between. I'll be interested to see. Generally I don't care for fantasy novels, but hey.

However, I'll get it for the game content alone because I hope to encourage these kind of partnerships. If authors and in particular editors (because often games have decent foundations, they just need some polish) can be encouraged to work with dev houses, I think we could get some far more polished games.
