I spend so much time talking and promoting Elemental that sometimes I neglect playing it more than I should.  So this weekend after the yard work was done, I sat down and spent some quality time with Elemental – beta 2.  I just love it.

Did you play, and what were your beta impressions so far?

played it too will play some more games before some feedback

played several games, but it out of memoryed or bluescreened on every game for me, but liked the artwork & transitions to cloth map, did not like the overpowered monsters/creatures that are wandering around, and would like a way to slowly restore the essence of the ruler.

Can't wait to play with some friends !

I played it for a couple games. In one I won by conquest after 4 turns or so.

I spent some time with Elemental, mainly just balance checking everything and looking of ways to improve everything.  I also spent some time convinving other people to look into Elemental, which is always nice.

Played a decent amount now that I know we are officially caring about balance and features.  Game is pretty fun but needs a lot of fleshing out before I know how good it's going to be.  Still find myself playing almost entirely on the cloth map ironically.  Find it difficult to play zoomed in for the most part as I can't tell what is what.  That's how I play most games though so I wouldn't put much weight in that.  Sounds like things will be advancing pretty quickly so I'm excited to see what's coming.

Frogboy

Examples:

1. Fixed the overpowered monsters lurking around at start.

etc.

I recruited a small party and went west. (My son!)

I whimpered slightly at the troll lord, but defeated one of its minions without casualty. I then looked at its full stats and GTFO. When I encountered the sand golem with 100 something attack, I promptly exited Elemental and decided to wait for a patch.

Played it and really enjoyed it. I think the game becomes bigger the longer you play. It starts off simple, but what really did it for me was training up a few companies of troops, and sticking my sovereign in that group and running around the map with them. That was great. Knowing that I could stick in a few creatures in that army within the final build made me smile.

(Personally I've always wanted to see a Total War Fantasy series.)

Once all the elements are in the game I can see every turn becoming important. Especially against a better AI and human players. Right now there is a bit of "turn waste" in the current build, but I think I'll be more concerned about what's happening within the games I play when all the elements are in, and what I do really counts.

Oh.. on a side note... I want to make a "Fabio" sovereign in a later game..... he'll be crap at fighting and spells, but the "women.... they love him...."

I'm trying to think of a few names for him..."6-Pack Mack", "Andy Abula"....

Ohh... and I'm very interested seeing what the siege battles will be like... since with this build you can create battering rams and that sort of thing...

I played this weekend. I think they have an awesome framework for the game that will be put in. Once a few of the kinks are worked out it will make for one helluva good game.

I'm glad to hear there were some changes regarding the housing and gardens. I played a few games and the building aspect was getting really tedious. I think in the other threads it is better debated, but I hope they go for a "less is more" option here.

I really liked exploring around and seeing the random worlds. I do wonder about how the movement is going to play out. Tried a bunch of different Sovereigns but the only one who seemed worthwhile was the guy who could move fast. I ended up killing all the NPCs and leveling up movement so I could move like 16 tiles per turn. Nothing wrong with being fast, but I was super fast compared to the bum who could only move one

I"m really looking forward to the tactical battles! I can't wait for more!

I played too many hours this weekend, but had nothing else to do anyway. I had both Civics and Warfare reseached to lvl 30+ and found so many speed potions, my sovereign was zipping around the map with move 13, after which even more speed potions didnt add anything more.

And i dare say it was fun.

Now i am going to punch myself for awhile to even out my karma ...

Frogboy
I played it a lot but I have the advantage of being able to make changes to the game as I play it.

Examples:

2. Re-did the whole garden thing.

Thank you, the garden thing was over the top.

I have to admit, I'm still in the phase to find out if the current style of city development will be fun in the future or not. Still in the trying phase and thinking how to improve - woop Frogboy was faster and already post on the upgrade of beta. I have to tell - as I'm still in the exploration phase of the game mechanics itself, the game plays a lot of fun for me. I think only the beginning without a tutorial means that you have at least to start a few games until you get used to all the different approaches. As soon as you identified how you can servive the first few rounds, there is plenty of room to explore and try different approaches.

Looking really forward to the game and the improvements.

I played for a bit (between work and sleep). Work... hmm who invented such chore? Let machines do work I say and let us play Elemental! Anyway I hope to sneak in some more game play on my day off, even if I have to move out to a hotel for the day .
