I spend so much time talking and promoting Elemental that sometimes I neglect playing it more than I should.  So this weekend after the yard work was done, I sat down and spent some quality time with Elemental – beta 2.  I just love it.

Did you play, and what were your beta impressions so far?

There's my story

I've played quite alot, but since barely any content is implemented yet, it gets a bit repetitive. Finding the same swords and potions and books everywhere. It's a good framework to add stuff to, though, it's going to be a great game!

The beta makes me hungry for more stuff to be released.  Definately a great base so looking foward to the other tech tree being enabled, and all the extra other stuffs too:)

MP was interesting, havn't found a way of being 100% sure of getting into a game with some mates, other than both of us hitting the matchmake button at the same time and i assume lucking out.  He could also end my turn while i oculdn't end his which led to some entertaining ventrilo raging on my part ^^.

I only played for like ~1h with the new build so far. I don't have enough freetime in these days. That being said, I really like the gfx engine. There are many gfx glitches still, but  I am pretty sure that those will be fixed soon.

I tested it two times against AI. First time i died when some random golem suddenly killed my sovereign. Second time, the same thing happened.

Haven't touched the game since... what the hell i'm supposed to do? I mean, don't i need fertile land or such for farms? Sure i can build a city on that frigging wasteland but...

Also, performance troubles, if they can be called that (also something to note: some options aren't fully shown on main menu, Fog of War brightness for example). 1440x900 (lowering this doesn't affect), no AA, no shadows, most of the options on, on minimun setting when possible. 30ish FPS, a bit lower, most of time, but when i do something, the game slows down considerably. Open a window, a slow down. Move, a slow down. It seems that most of my time is spent on waiting something to happen.

Played with it for a good while all weekend and I am liking the eye candy! Had A long game with no CTD till Sunday. Can't wait to see the spell effects but I am concerned that CTD will happen like crazy once they are included in the Beta!!

Play count on impulse incremented by about 20.  This is actually only about 5 - 6 hours of playtime, it was a busy weekend.

Played every time the wife and kids left teh house.  Why must they keep coming back?!?!

I played it and finally played enough of it to win a game by killing off my two opponents.  I am pleased with the gfx and with the way it is shaping up so far.  I am getting some stuttering in the movements of my units every once in a while but I don't know if that is a bug or just the way it is at this stage.  Other than that though, I can't wait to see what it shapes up to be in the upcoming releases.  So, thumbs up devs, it's looking nice and keep up the good work.

Also, a big thumbs up to the community.  Many of you are waaaaay over my head when it comes to strategy games.  I am glad and lucky that you guys are throwing in your two cents because you seem to know your stuff and are a hell of a lot better at thinking of ideas and ways to improve upon the game than I could ever suggest or think of.  <--- hope that made sense.

Cheers.

I played it a lot but I have the advantage of being able to make changes to the game as I play it.

Examples:

1. Fixed the overpowered monsters lurking around at start.

2. Re-did the whole garden thing.

3. Re-did the whole city population to level up thing

4. Re-did the various books and treasures and items you get from quests thing to balance it more.

5. Wrote a ton of new AI code to make it better.

etc.

Played a bit.  Has some good framework.

I am looking forward to being able to create my own quests and AI personalities via XML or other simple means.

Going to play AoW: Shadow Magic with some friends until retail Elemental comes out.. unless it is delayed until next February, then we'll probably play Civ 5 until Elemental comes out.  What I find interesting is that as many complaints as Elemental gets for having bland repetitive quests (which will certainly be expanded upon come release) they are still generally more varied and interesting than Shadow Magic's, which are 90% of the time "Kill infidels."

2. Re-did the whole garden thing.

3. Re-did the whole city population to level up thing

Wait, what? Details!

Dude I wish I had more time to play! (Work, A Team, Grad Parties, Lan Party...)

But I must say I really enjoyed it! Also I love the artwork! (SUCK IT HATERS!)

on Jun 14, 2010

I also really, really, really love the artwork and graphics.

Eh.

Played it a few hours. No CTD, so everytime I saved my game and I progressed a little along the tech trees and the city growth.

I like it.    Of course things are somewhat repetitive but I know it's just waiting for stuff to get implemented. I don't share many critics I can read (about citybuilding or monsters).

I mainly encountered graphic glitches. I don't know whether to report them now since we've been told the Debugg.err has been disabled.

As for the evolution of the game, I'd say I find the UI rather cumbersome. It lacks ergonomy, compared to an AoW i.e., in group management, moving, city-building,... I shall try to contribute in improving this domain.
