Any long time user of WinCustomize will know that summer is typically a slower time for skinning, simply because people are going on vacation, going home from school, etc., but that doesn’t always affect everyone and I’m glad to see skins are coming in at a great pace, and I’m seeing some new skinners too.

One of the big things about skinning, at least in my point of view, is that it is a niche type of hobby and it is rooted in community with friends and family.  In case you didn’t know, Stardock has a new PC game coming out soon called Elemental: War of Magic.  We also started a contest called Elemental Army where users are rewarded with points for basically helping to spread the word.  We aren’t going to go that far here, but it got me thinking how doing some simple things like making a blog post, or sharing skins/themes with your friends goes a long way by making people aware of desktop customization.

I wanted to know how WinCustomize users share their experiences with others.  Among the many ways I spread the word is by sending links to specific skins to my friends, ones that I am pretty sure they would like.  Now that social networks like Facebook and Twitter have taken off, that is another very useful way to share skins with others.

Let me know how you tell friends about skinning, and I’m looking for ideas for promotions or projects on WinCustomize for the next few months.  Let me know!

Sending links to people n friends is one way I do it,  but the more interesting way is that I meet about 15-20 new people everyday for business and as soon as I open up my laptop most of them ask how I made my desktop look so great with almost all of them asking about the Animated wallpapers......and I finish off my call providing as much information about WC to them, also letting them know how i've been skinning myself and providing relevant links to them.

[ I open up Wincustomize at work and explain as much or little as I can in the time allowed.] Although, the preceding statement about me surfing the net while at work holds no truth ( wink, wink) I do show other peoples works and they are met by admiration's and ooh's and aah's.

I have a link to WC on my blog page and on Flavors.me.

I always put a news article on my deviantART profile page when Stardock has a sale on software as well as posting it on other websites I frequent.

I have a linkback to Wincustomize wherever I go, be it at my DA, Renderosity or Skinbase. There are many wincustomize members who also have sites with the same links. I send my friends links to my site and many have explored the site in general. I think it's a great idea Spencer. If I can help in any way, just leat us know. I am all for the blog.

At work, I use a lot of Ausvet's medical Dreams, and kl0w3's Dr GUI skin.... tends to get a lot of attention, and since I snapped a wall of "Spinal Tap" I use it to explain points to patients, who are generally amazed that an old geezer ("That's Dr. Geezer, sir.") has such a cool computer...lol.

I only wish I could persuade Patrick, Carsguy1, or Amitsaran (or all those stars) to do a full medical series.
