Any long time user of WinCustomize will know that summer is typically a slower time for skinning, simply because people are going on vacation, going home from school, etc., but that doesn’t always affect everyone and I’m glad to see skins are coming in at a great pace, and I’m seeing some new skinners too.
One of the big things about skinning, at least in my point of view, is that it is a niche type of hobby and it is rooted in community with friends and family. In case you didn’t know, Stardock has a new PC game coming out soon called Elemental: War of Magic. We also started a contest called Elemental Army where users are rewarded with points for basically helping to spread the word. We aren’t going to go that far here, but it got me thinking how doing some simple things like making a blog post, or sharing skins/themes with your friends goes a long way by making people aware of desktop customization.
I wanted to know how WinCustomize users share their experiences with others. Among the many ways I spread the word is by sending links to specific skins to my friends, ones that I am pretty sure they would like. Now that social networks like Facebook and Twitter have taken off, that is another very useful way to share skins with others.
Let me know how you tell friends about skinning, and I’m looking for ideas for promotions or projects on WinCustomize for the next few months. Let me know!
