The Escapist has a great, in-depth interview with Stardock CEO Brad Wardell.  Topic of discussion is Impulse and its place in the digital distribution market.

MS: There is also a lot of speculation about how digital distribution will end up. Some think it has already taken over, and others think it will take 20 years before it is as important as retail ...

BW: I don't think it will ever completely take over. I think on the PC side it will go the way of music. Although only 30 percent of music is sold digitally, apparently 70 percent of music is still purchased the old fashioned way, even though I don't know anyone who still purchases music that way anymore. “

It’s a 3 page interview, and well worth the read.  Head over to The Escapist for the full interview.

Oh come on now, you're just saying it's "well worth the read" because he signs your pay checks J/K

It was well worth the read. I think Brad has a pretty good idea of what the future will hold for Digital Distribution and it's inner workings now in the current marketplace.

30 percent?  I'd be surprised if it wasn't 70 percent RIGHT NOW.  I haven't bought a physical pc game in ages and I don't know anyone else who has in a long ass time.

The main issue with comparing it to music is that music still has large isles with cds.  Go to any store and pc gaming has one small isle.  You have to buy digital nowadays.
