well as a die hard vista fan i have to admit i am smitten by windows7, apart from all those annoying folders in documents  lol

I hate the way windows 7 does not remember the positions of explorer windows, duel screen I like to open my documents folder and have them appear where I left them and then open my pictures folder and have them appear where I left them the last time I closed them. fortunately a great utility called ShellFolderFix saved the day, now I love windows 7.

sounds like a bios problem.  Or dying PSU

  never had a bsod.  I guess I'm the lucky one... And I like the old start menu and folder view.

 

windows7 is fantastic, except rightclick does not work.

I hear you about getting into the task manager.  Those of us who've been out there awhile are so used to cntrl, alt, delete that is second nature to us.  However, I have sort of retrained me to right click on the task bar and select it there.  Still, ever now and then I still hit cntrl, alt. delete.    

Someone mentioned that the pinned taskbar icons bug them.  It bugged me too but there is an easy fix available at How to Geek:  http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/add-the-quick-launch-bar-to-the-taskbar-in-windows-7/I  Now I have my Quick Launch back so I'm a happy camper. 

For those who hate the Start Button, rumor has it that Windows 8 will do away with it.  So far I've only read a couple of articles on it because it's still early in the development process.  The Start button works for me because I have no icons on my desktop.  My computer works "magically" via a programmable keyboard.  I even hide the taskbar sometimes so I can fully enjoy the great wallpapers I find here.

As a detriment to skinning overall... its a complete and utter bastard.

It does work on -some- W7 systems. On most systems (mainly 64 bit) though, it nukes Windows Exploder.
I can get it to work on my W7, but only right after it's installed, and only untill I reboot. After that it keeps on nuking Exploder.

A -significant- reason for why I haven't switched W7.

I'm confused. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and everything runs fine. Plenty of programs to choose from. Was XP 64 bit different in some way?

I've never had any drives turn off. Are you referring to if there are multiple hard drives Windows will turn off those drives?

By the way I like the defualt look of 7. I turned off the transparency and made the taskbar use small icons while changing the taskbar to all black. I like the way Windows 7 handles my day to day tasks.

Not sure if this will do it for ya since currently I just have one multi-partitioned HD on the system, but try...

Control Panel>Performance Information and Tools. You'll see "Adjust power settings" on the left. Then go to change plan settings. From there hit "Change advanced power settings" and you should get a treed window. Select hard disk and change the "Turn off after XX minutes" to what you like.

Kind of little maze to go through to find it. Think I originally got there by accident

 

It's not power settings. If you have extra drives, Windows turns them off if they are not in use. When you try to access them you have to wait until they start up. I can't remember where it is but in Vista you could tell a drive to not turn off when not in use. Maybe it's because I hade Vista Ultimate and this is W7 Home Premium.

 

Anyway, I might have gotten round it. I've just installed mst Defrag which constantly monitors drives and that might be keeping them awake.

Love it, best Windows Version! No compatability issues. I do wish they would fix those annoying popups in IE8. I think it's because the sites you go to are not using the latest technology?
